Byrnecut Australia is seeking an experienced Underground Superintendent to join our team at Prominent Hill, South Australia.

This is a key operational leadership position requiring a Superintendent with a strong underground development background and the capability to lead a busy, high-performing underground operation.

We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience overseeing large-scale development operations, ideally involving 3-4 jumbos, and who can bring strong operational knowledge, leadership and planning capability to the role.

The Role

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will take a leading role in the safe and effective delivery of underground operations, with a strong focus on development performance, planning, productivity and people leadership.

You will oversee Shift Supervisors and underground crews while working closely with technical, maintenance and site leadership teams to deliver against operational targets.

Key responsibilities will include:

Leading underground mining operations to safely achieve development and production targets

Driving development performance across the operation, including effective utilisation of jumbo crews and associated development activities

Providing leadership, mentoring and direction to Underground Shift Supervisors and operational crews

Coordinating daily, weekly and monthly operational priorities

Working closely with technical services to ensure development plans are practical and effectively executed

Managing workforce allocation, equipment utilisation and operational priorities

Monitoring development performance and identifying opportunities to improve advance, productivity and efficiency

Maintaining a strong focus on safety, statutory compliance and operational standards

Driving accountability and high performance across underground crews





Supporting incident investigations, risk assessments and corrective actions

Building strong working relationships with the client, site stakeholders and support departments

Contributing to operational reporting, budgeting and cost management

Driving continuous improvement across underground operations

About You

For this position, strong underground development experience is a key requirement.

We are looking for someone who understands development mining at a senior operational level and has the leadership capability to manage multiple crews, competing priorities and a demanding underground development schedule.

Ideally, you will bring:

Experience managing a significant underground development operation

Experience overseeing approximately 3-4 jumbos strongly preferred

Previous experience as an Underground Superintendent, Senior Shift Supervisor or equivalent senior operational leader

Strong understanding of the complete underground development cycle

Demonstrated ability to drive development performance while maintaining high safety standards

Current Shift Supervisor qualification/ticket relevant to South Australia

Current S26 certificate or equivalent statutory qualification

Solid understanding of underground mining legislation and statutory requirements

Proven ability to lead, mentor and develop high-performing teams

Strong planning, communication and organisational capability





Current Australian Manual Driver's Licence

Current First Aid Certificate

Full Australian working rights

Ability to meet all pre-employment requirements, including medical, National Police Clearance and drug & alcohol screening
