The Mission: Architecting the "Operating System" for Modern Manufacturing

Who is Rhize?

Manufacturing is the backbone of the global economy, yet it is often held back by rigid, 30-year-old software silos. Rhize is changing that. We’ve built a "headless" Manufacturing Data Hub—an event-driven, GraphQL-powered ecosystem that allows global factories to finally treat their data as a strategic asset. Our customers are global industrial companies and are spread across Europe, the USA and Australia. The Rhize team is also spread across those regions, but our core product development happens in Australia.

A People-First Mission

At Rhize, we are a people company first and a software company second. Our core belief is simple: Products and profit are the byproduct of growing people. Our objective is to provide an setting where your career trajectory and personal growth are prioritized. We don't just build code; we build experts, leaders, and pioneers.

The Role: Architect, Force Multiplier, and Mentor

We are looking for a Staff Engineer (E4) to serve as the technical anchor for our product engineering team. You will be a force multiplier—combining deep domain expertise, sound architectural principles, and operational rigor to guide the design and execution of resilient, scalable systems.

You won't just be writing code. You will facilitate key technical decisions, champion engineering best practices, and work closely with product and business stakeholders to align our technical strategy with broader organizational goals.

If you love solving complex distributed systems problems while fostering a culture of continuous learning and economic decision-making, we want you on our team.

Technical Stewardship

- System Sovereignty & Architecture: You will architect services using well-accepted design patterns that enable iterative, autonomous development. You anticipate future use cases and make design choices that minimize the cost of subsequent changes as we scale our Graph and event-driven architecture.
- Operational Rigor & Quality: You take pride in bulletproof systems. You will champion the testing pyramid, use quality metrics to identify testing gaps, and drive monitoring work based on operational data. You are the go-to expert for systematic debugging across our most complex domains.
- Economic Execution: You are an economic thinker. You weigh cost against value to take the most responsible action, navigating risk, change, and ambiguity effectively. You anticipate blockers and cost overruns, ensuring expectations are aligned across all stakeholders.
- Product Partnership: You evaluate, shape, and build new product features in deep collaboration with the product team. You simplify product and technical design through proactive, early-stage conversations and regularly contribute to our strategic roadmaps.
- Security & Strategy: You act as a security champion, actively working with the broader organization to foster a "security-first" mindset.

You understand how your team's domain maps to overall market trends and adjacent team strategies.

Attributes of a Rhize Pioneer

- Curiosity & Innovation: You aren't satisfied with "the way it's always been done." You seek elegant, scalable solutions to complex distributed state problems and stay abreast of the latest technical and market trends.
- Self-Motivation & Urgency: You are a low-instruction, high-output leader. You foster a team culture of priority setting and urgency in alignment with company strategy, acting responsibly even when you don't have the total picture.
- Constructive Collaborator: You foster a culture where teammates are encouraged to share their opinions and approach disagreement non-defensively. You actively seek out feedback as a tool for growth and demonstrate this behavior daily.
- Team-Builder & Mentor: You are passionate about mentorship. You mentor in an open, respectful, empathetic manner, specifically seeking opportunities to create team redundancy and elevate the engineers around you.

The Stack

We leverage a world-class, modern stack: Rust, Go, React/Apollo, RhizeDB (our high-performance Dgraph fork), Restate.dev, QuestDB, and Solace.

If you have a keen interest and knowledge of how databases and distributed applications work, and would like to work on the cutting edge of technology, we might be for you.

Why Rhize?

- Growth-Centric Culture: We invest in you. If you are stepping up into this role, we will provide the support and autonomy you need to succeed.
- Real-World Impact: Your work directly affects the physical world, from supply chains to sustainable manufacturing.
- Technical Complexity: We don't do CRUD apps. We solve hard-tech problems in distributed systems and graph theory.
