The Fleet, Radio, and Equipment Department at St John WA plays a critical role in ensuring the operational readiness and safety of the organization’s statewide vehicle fleet. Comprising a dedicated team of 30 skilled professionals, the department is responsible for managing over 1,000 ambulances and transport vehicles across Western Australia.

About the Role:

As a Radio Technician with St John WA, you will join a proactive and self-motivated team in our modern workshop in Belmont. You will maintain the metropolitan radio network used across St John ambulances and fleet vehicles, covering 13 sites across the Perth metropolitan area from Mandurah to Quinns Rocks and east to Wooroloo. Each day will start and finish at Belmont, with travel to other locations as required. This is an prospect to join a passionate and evolving not-for-profit organisation that provides an essential service to the community. This is a permanent, full-time position working Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with a 30-minute lunch break. You will also participate in the on-call roster and occasional regional travel as required.

What You’ll Do:

- Provide radio and communications support to ambulance staff and volunteers.
- Install, maintain and repair VHF, UHF, P25 and microwave radio systems.
- Install and decommission radio and communications equipment in vehicles.




- Assemble, test and troubleshoot communications systems and equipment.
- Support emerging technologies, including RFID and Starlink.
- Assist with communications projects, installations and equipment upgrades.
- Liaise with staff, volunteers, suppliers and contractors to coordinate works.
- Maintain accurate service records, fault reports and technical documentation.
- Maintain workshop, tools, equipment and service vehicles to a high standard.
- Participate in the on-call roster and occasional regional travel.

What You’ll Need:

- 3 years post-apprenticeship experience or possession of a diploma or relevant qualifications, telecommunications and equivalent trade certificate.
- Demonstrated experience with communicating with internal and external stakeholders, Problem solving and fault diagnosis and report writing
- Knowledge and experience in land mobile communication equipment
- A demonstrated understanding in microwave radio systems
- Knowledge of 3G, 4G, WIFI, PTT and satellite forms of communication (desirable)
- Knowledge of IP Networking and Cisco Router configuration (desirable)
- Worked with Simoco, Kyodo, Omnitronics, and Tait P25 radio equipment (desirable)
