Melbourne Racing Club is seeking an ambitious Group Financial Controller to lead its finance function through the next phase of growth, systems enhancement and reporting transformation. Reporting to the CFO, this role offers the opportunity to shape finance strategy, modernise processes and build a best-in-class finance function.

Melbourne Racing Club (MRC) is one of Australia's leading sporting, hospitality and events organisations, operating across racing, entertainment, hospitality, gaming and venue operations. Following significant investment in technology, data capability and organisational structure, the business is seeking a commercially minded finance leader to elevate reporting, improve decision-making and drive a transformative finance agenda.

Description

Reporting directly to the CFO, the Group Financial Controller will lead financial control, statutory reporting, governance and finance operations across the Group. This is a high-profile leadership role with responsibility for both the performance of the finance team and the ongoing evolution of finance systems, reporting and business insights.

Managing a team comprising:

- Finance Manager - Racing & Events
- Finance Manager - Venues
- Systems & Data Analyst
- Team Leader - AP/AR

You will be responsible for building capability, driving accountability and creating a high-performing finance function aligned to the organisation's strategic objectives.

Key responsibilities include:

- Lead month-end, year-end and statutory reporting across the Group
- Identify practical uses for AI and automation in finance and lead the team in adopting them
- Group consolidation and managing external audit




- Partner with executive and operational leaders to redesign management reporting and provide more meaningful commercial insights
- Manage cashflow and working capital
- Lead the optimisation of Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, Microsoft Fabric and associated third-party systems.
- Champion data analytics and business intelligence capability to improve organisational decision making.
- Support the implementation of a budgeting and forecasting platform to strengthen planning and performance management.
- Enhance governance, financial controls, compliance frameworks and risk management processes.
- Improve data integrity, reporting accuracy and visibility across multiple business units and operational systems.
- Develop and mentor a capable finance team while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
- Support strategic business initiatives through financial modelling, business case analysis and commercial decision support.
- Act as a key deputy to the CFO and contribute to the long-term finance strategy of the organisation.

Profile

You are an experienced Financial Controller, Group Financial Controller or senior finance leader who combines strong technical capability with a proven track record delivering change.

You will bring:

- CA or CPA qualification.
- Extensive experience leading financial control, statutory reporting and governance functions.
- Demonstrated success managing finance teams within complex,



multi-entity organisations.
- A track record of delivering finance transformation, ERP implementations, reporting enhancements and process improvement initiatives.
- Strong systems experience, ideally across Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI or similar reporting platforms.
- Advanced data analytics capability and a genuine passion for leveraging technology to improve business outcomes.
- A proactive approach to using AI and new technology to support the finance team, build capability and improve day-to-day ways of working.
- Solid commercial acumen with the ability to translate financial information into actionable insights.
- Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills.
- A leadership style that develops teams, drives accountability and challenges traditional ways of working.
- The ambition and capability to develop into a future CFO role.
