WHAT WILL YOU ACTUALLY DO?
You'll become part of our Facilities team and learn on the job with support and guidance from our experienced Building Services staff.
You'll help maintain, build and improve the Council facilities our community uses every day.
No two days look the same!
As you develop your skills, you'll gain hands‐on experience in:
preparing surfaces and applying paints and finishes to Council buildings and facilities
finishing and clean‐up work, taking care to produce quality results
supporting building maintenance and construction projects across the region
safely using, cleaning and maintaining tools, equipment and materials
working safely at heights using ladders, platforms and other access equipment, with the right training and supervision
working as part of a team and delivering great outcomes for internal and external customers.
YOUR QUALIFICATION
At the same time, you'll work towards completing your Certificate III in Painting and Decorating through a Registered Training Organisation, with your on‐the‐job learning helping you build the skills to work with increasing independence.
Employment status:Full Time, Limited Tenure for up to four (4) years, 76 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight

We're not looking for someone who already knows how to do everything – the purpose of the apprenticeship is to learn.

are willing to learn and can follow instructions
take safety seriously and look out for your workmates
have basic computer skills to support your training
enjoy being part of a team and can respond positively to guidance and feedback
are committed to completing your apprenticeship and qualification.
Any previous experience in painting, construction, building maintenance or other hands‐on trade work will be well regarded, but it isn't essential.
Most importantly, bring your enthusiasm, willingness to learn and a great attitude.
We'll help you build the skills.
WHAT DO YOU NEED:
To be eligible for this apprenticeship, you will need:
completion of Year 10 or equivalent and/or relevant work experience.
eligibility, ability and willingness to enrol in and successfully complete the Certificate III in Painting and Decorating.
General Construction Induction Training (White Card), or the ability to obtain one
a minimum Queensland Provisional ('P') C Class Driver Licence, or the ability to obtain one.
the ability to undertake regular field‐based and physical work, including manual handling, bending, kneeling and standing for extended periods, in varying weather conditions.
If you meet the essential requirements but haven't had much work experience yet, don't let that stop you from applying.
