Carbal Medical Services is looking for an experiencedChild Health Nurseto join our multidisciplinary team in Toowoomba.
Working across ourPrimary Health Clinic and Growing Deadly Families (GDF) program, you'll provide child and family health nursing, developmental assessment, immunisation, health education, early intervention and care coordination.
You'll work alongside GPs, Registered Nurses, Midwives, Aboriginal Health Workers, Allied Health professionals and other Carbal programs to help children and families access coordinated, culturally safe health care.

Monday to Friday – no weekends or shift work

About the Role
The Child Health Nurse supports the health, development and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
Working across Carbal'sPrimary Health Clinic and Growing Deadly Families program, you'll provide comprehensive child and family health nursing services, with a strong focus on prevention, early identification, intervention and continuity of care.
You'll undertake child health and developmental assessments, provide immunisations within your scope of practice, support parents and families with health information and education, identify emerging health or developmental concerns and coordinate appropriate follow-up and referrals.
The role also supports access to maternal, antenatal and postnatal services where appropriate, recognising the importance of continuity of care from pregnancy through infancy and early childhood.
You'll work with families and Carbal's multidisciplinary team to connect children with the clinical and community support they need.
This is a role for an experienced Registered Nurse who enjoys working with children and families, values preventative and early intervention health care and wants to contribute to better long-term health outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing
Child Health Assessment & Development
Undertake comprehensive child health assessments and monitor children's growth, development and wellbeing.
Identify health, developmental or behavioural concerns and coordinate appropriate follow‐up.
Support early identification and intervention for children who may require additional clinical, developmental or family support.
Work with parents and carers to support their understanding of child health, growth and development.
Promote preventative health care and regular health checks throughout infancy and childhood.
Support appropriate follow‐up of identified health concerns in collaboration with General Practitioners and other clinicians.
Immunisation & Preventative Health
Monitor childhood immunisation status in accordance with current immunisation schedules.
Administer childhood vaccinations within scope of practice and relevant clinical requirements.
Maintain accurate immunisation and clinical records.
Identify children who are overdue for vaccination and support appropriate recall and follow‐up.
Provide families with clear, evidence‐based information about immunisation, preventative health and childhood wellbeing.
Participate in child health promotion and preventative health initiatives.
Provide health education and practical guidance to parents and carers on child health, development, nutrition, illness prevention and wellbeing.
Support families to understand health information and participate confidently in decisions about their child's care.
Develop respectful and trusting relationships with children, parents, carers and families.
Recognise the broader social, cultural and family factors that may influence a child's health and access to care.
Support families to navigate health services and connect with appropriate Carbal and external supports.
Provide care that is culturally safe, respectful, family‐centred and responsive to individual needs.
Maternal & Early Years Health
Work collaboratively with the Growing Deadly Families team to support continuity of care from pregnancy through infancy and early childhood.
Support access to antenatal, postnatal, maternal and child health services.
Provide child and family health nursing input as part of coordinated maternal and early years care.
Work collaboratively with Midwives, GPs, Aboriginal Health Workers, Nurses and other health professionals supporting women and families.
Identify opportunities for early intervention and additional family support.
Care Coordination & Referrals
Coordinate referrals to appropriate clinical, specialist, allied health and community services.
Liaise with General Practitioners regarding identified child health concerns, including hearing, nutrition, growth, development and other clinical needs.
Support access to services including speech pathology, audiology, dental, nutrition, developmental and early intervention services where required.
Follow up referrals, investigations and appointments to support continuity of care.
Link and cross‐refer families to appropriate Carbal programs and services.
Develop effective working relationships with external health, hospital, specialist, community and family support services.
Work collaboratively across Carbal's Primary Health Clinic and Growing Deadly Families program.
Participate as an active member of Carbal's multidisciplinary clinical team.
Contribute to case discussions, care planning and coordinated clinical care where appropriate.
Work collaboratively with GPs, Registered Nurses, Midwives, Aboriginal Health Workers, Allied Health professionals and program staff.
Participate in community‐based child and family health activities, education and outreach where required.
Support effective communication between Carbal programs and external services involved in a child's care.
Clinical Practice, Documentation & Quality
Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive clinical records.
Work within professional scope of practice, Carbal policies and procedures and relevant clinical standards.
Maintain registration, mandatory training and professional development requirements.
Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement and service development activities relevant to child and family health.
Contribute to the review and improvement of child health services and models of care.
Maintain confidentiality and appropriate management of sensitive client and family information.
Participate in team meetings,
professional development and mandatory training.
You'll Be a Great Fit If You...
We're looking for an experienced Registered Nurse who brings strong child and family health knowledge, sound clinical judgement and the ability to build positive relationships with children and families.
You'll be comfortable working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team and understand the importance of culturally safe, family‐centred care.
Current registration as aRegistered Nurse with AHPRA.
Demonstrated experience inchild and family health, including maternal, antenatal and postnatal care.
Demonstrated experience undertaking child health assessments and supporting children's growth, development and wellbeing.
Knowledge of childhood development, preventative health, early intervention and contemporary child and family health practice.
Understanding of the health and wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families.
Ability to provide culturally safe, respectful and family‐centred care.
Strong clinical assessment, communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to build effective relationships with children, families, colleagues and external health and community services.
Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise and manage multiple clinical and administrative responsibilities.
Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
Current CPR certification.
Current Open C Class Driver Licence valid in Queensland.
Ability to satisfactorily complete all required pre‐employment screening and checks.
Highly Regarded
Child and Family Health Nursing qualification or relevant postgraduate qualification.
Experience working within an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisation.
Experience in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary health care.
Experience working within a multidisciplinary primary health care environment.
Experience with maternal and child health, early years programs or community‐based health services.
Experience in health promotion, community education or outreach activities.
