About the role
The Executive Housekeeper is responsible for the overall leadership, management and operational performance of the Housekeeping Department at Mercure Belconnen Canberra.
The position ensures all guest rooms, public areas, Conference and Events Centre and designated back-of-house areas are maintained to the highest standards of cleanliness, presentation, hygiene and guest comfort, consistent with Accor brand standards, Mercure Canberra Belconnen expectations and all legislative requirements.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the role provides strategic and operational leadership to the housekeeping team while maintaining effective labour management, departmental productivity, inventory control and quality assurance systems.
Key responsibilities
Effective leadership and management of the Housekeeping Department, ensuring sufficient staffing levels, appropriate allocation of resources and efficient coordination of daily operations
Preparing rosters that align with occupancy forecasts and approved labour budgets, allocating work according to operational priorities and monitoring productivity throughout each shift
Developing a professional and engaged housekeeping team through recruitment, induction, training, coaching and performance management
Ensuring every guest room is presented to the highest standard of cleanliness, comfort and functionality before being released for guest occupation
Establishing clear cleaning standards, implementing structured inspection processes and verifying through regular audits that standards are consistently achieved
Maintaining the presentation, cleanliness and hygiene of all conference and events meeting rooms, public areas, toilets and back of house areas
Implementing cleaning schedules appropriate to occupancy levels and guest activity, conducting regular inspections and ensuring presentation issues are addressed immediately
Systematically identifying and reporting maintenance issues, ensuring maintenance defects are accurately reported and followed through until completed
Implementing and maintaining an effective quality assurance program, including monitoring guest feedback that measures housekeeping performance against established hotel standards
Managing departmental expenditure within approved budgets while maintaining service standards, monitoring labour productivity, roster efficiency and operational costs
About you
3 years' experience as an Executive Housekeeper/ Senior Housekeeping Supervisor within a hotel environment
Extensive knowledge of the hospitality (Hotel) industry
Exceptional knowledge and principals of guest service
Extensive knowledge of housekeeping practices
Extensive Knowledge of staff management and robust leadership skills
Exceptional Time management
Ability to motivate others
Interpersonal communication
Professional, flexible, trustworthy, reliable and punctual
Certificate 4 in Hospitality/Hotel Management or equivalent is desirable
