About the Role n
We are looking for an experienced
Software Engineer
to join our Canberra engineering team in a full-time, permanent role. The salary is Award based with a total remuneration package of $125,000 including superannuation.
n
This is a hands-on engineering position for someone who is comfortable working across
backend APIs, cloud infrastructure and web applications
, with most of the engineering depth focused on
serverless backend systems and integrations
.
n
You will work closely with engineering, product and compliance specialists to turn complex regulatory and product requirements into reliable production software.
n
This is not a role where architecture is separated from implementation. You will be expected to make sound technical decisions and then help
build, test, deploy and operate
the resulting software.
Key Responsibilities n
You will contribute across the Intaxio platform, including:
Software Development & Architecture n
n
Research, analyse and evaluate business and system requirements to design and develop scalable, secure and reliable software solutions.
n
Design, develop, maintain and enhance production APIs, backend services and application components in accordance with technical specifications and development standards.
n
Design and maintain RESTful APIs, JSON schemas and OpenAPI specifications for reliable communication between internal and external systems.
n
Contribute to software architecture and implementation decisions, including evaluating technical approaches, identifying technology limitations and recommending appropriate solutions.
n
Write, review and maintain high-quality program code in accordance with system designs, technical specifications and software engineering best practices.
n
Identify limitations, deficiencies and technical risks within existing applications and development processes and implement appropriate improvements.
n
Develop and maintain serverless and event-driven applications using AWS services including Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, DynamoDB, S3, Cognito and Secrets Manager.
n
Design and implement secure, multi-tenant application services, including authentication, authorisation and technical security controls.
n
Develop and maintain tools and processes that support software development, application management, deployment, monitoring and security.
n
Identify, assess and mitigate risks affecting the performance, availability, security and integrity of software throughout the product lifecycle.
n
Front-End Development n
n
Develop and maintain customer-facing and administration interfaces using Angular.
n
Integrate front-end applications with backend APIs and services.
n
Contribute to maintaining application usability,



functionality, reliability and maintainability.
n
Integration & API Development n
n
Research, design and implement integrations with external platforms and government services.
n
Work with modern and legacy integration protocols, including REST, XML/SOAP and AS4.
n
Design reliable interfaces and integration services to support complex business and regulatory requirements.
n
Testing, Deployment & Reliability n
n
Develop and maintain automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
n
Perform testing, debugging and fault diagnosis to identify and resolve application errors and defects.
n
Manage and improve software testing and deployment automation, including CI/CD pipelines and development tooling.
n
Monitor and analyse operational metrics, application behaviour and system performance to identify anomalies and opportunities for improvement.
n
Investigate production incidents, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective and preventative measures.
n
Develop and implement continuous improvement and continuous delivery practices across software development and deployment.
n
Security & Compliance n
n
Apply appropriate security practices, including access controls, encryption and secure handling of sensitive information.
n
Analyse application and system anomalies, security events and technical issues to assist in identifying potential threats and vulnerabilities.
n
Work with product and compliance specialists to translate regulatory requirements into clear, deterministic and testable software behaviour.
n
Contribute to maintaining secure and reliable systems within a regulated technology environment.
n
Collaboration & Technical Documentation n
n
Collaborate with engineering, product and compliance specialists to understand requirements and develop practical technical solutions.
n
Review source code and provide technical input to improve code quality, maintainability, security and adherence to development standards.
n
Provide technical advice on software design approaches, technology solutions and system enhancements.
n
Create and maintain technical, operational and end-user documentation.
n
Take ownership of technical problems throughout the software development lifecycle, from design and implementation through to deployment and ongoing support.
n
Qualifications & Experience n
To be successful in this role, you will have:
n
n
A Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a closely related discipline.
n
At least five years of professional software development experience.
n




Strong commercial experience developing software using
Node.js and TypeScript
.
n
Demonstrated experience designing, developing and maintaining APIs and distributed backend services.
n
Hands-on experience designing and implementing
AWS serverless solutions
.
n
Strong understanding of data modelling, asynchronous processing and event-driven architectures.
n
Experience designing and implementing secure authentication, authorisation and multi-tenant application architectures.
n
Solid software engineering fundamentals, including automated testing, source control, code review and maintainable software design.
n
Experience troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving complex application, integration and production issues.
n
Demonstrated ability to take ownership of technical requirements and problems throughout the software development lifecycle.
n
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document technical solutions, system designs and engineering decisions.
n
Sufficient front-end development experience to contribute effectively to applications built with Angular.
n
