Trelleborg is looking for a
Junior Functional Tester
to join our Software Engineering team in Melbourne on a
3-month fixed-term contract
, with the possibility of extension to 6 months.
This is an excellent opportunity for a software tester with
1–3 years of commercial testing experience
to contribute to the development and release of a new customer-facing application.
The role is primarily focused on
hands-on manual functional testing
, with the opportunity to develop your automation skills by converting reliable regression test cases into basic
Playwright
scripts using an established framework.
You will work closely with developers, the Software Engineering Manager and business stakeholders to identify issues, validate fixes and help ensure a high-quality product is delivered.
Key responsibilities
Develop and execute functional test cases based on business requirements and user stories.
Identify, document, triage and track defects through to resolution, including clear reproduction steps and supporting evidence.
Retest fixes and maintain regression test cases as the product evolves.
Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and collate feedback from business stakeholders.
Build and maintain basic automated UI test scripts using
Playwright
within the existing software testing framework.
Report testing progress, coverage, defects and outstanding risks to the Software Engineering Manager.
Work collaboratively with the software engineering team throughout the development and release process.
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
1–3 years' commercial experience
in a software testing role.
Demonstrated experience in manual functional testing of commercial applications.
The ability to develop clear and structured test cases from written requirements and user stories.
Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to defect reporting.
Experience documenting reproduction steps, expected versus actual results and supporting evidence.
Working knowledge of
Playwright
, or experience with another modern automation tool such as Cypress, Selenium or Puppeteer, with a willingness to quickly develop Playwright skills.
Experience using a defect tracking tool such as
Jira
.
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
Full Australian working rights and availability to work
onsite in Melbourne
.
The following would be advantageous:
Experience with API testing using Postman or a similar tool.
Basic SQL knowledge for data validation.
Experience working in an Agile or Scrum environment.
What we are looking for
This role is suited to a
junior-level tester
who enjoys hands-on testing and wants to build further experience in test automation.
You will be part of a collaborative Software Engineering team and will have the opportunity to work across the full testing lifecycle from developing test cases and executing manual testing through to defect management, regression testing and basic automation.
