Full-time | SCHADS Award – Social and Community Services Employee, Level 4 | Ballarat Region
Have you ever coached someone to be genuinely better at their job — not by doing it for them, but by building their skill and confidence?
Can you walk into a shift and tell, straight away, whether the support being delivered is person-centred and qualified?
That's exactly the kind of person we need as our next Support Supervisor.
About the role
You'll own the capability, practice quality, and performance of a cohort of 20+ support workers.
That means scheduled supervision, assessing and signing off practice competencies (including competency to implement Behaviour Support Plans), and delivering core practice training such as progress-note and incident-report training.
You'll spend real time in the field — roughly 60% of your week — observing practice, coaching in the moment, and being present for new starters and complex supports.
When a matter goes beyond a Team Leader's day-to-day redirection, you'll take it on: managing performance concerns in collaboration with the HR Manager, and working with the Quality & Compliance Manager on Behaviour Support Plan implementation.
This role sits deliberately outside the participant-coordination line. You won't manage participant relationships — that's the Participant Relationship Officer's domain.
Your focus is the workforce: how good the people delivering those supports actually are.
You'll report to the Service Manager.
What you'll actually do
Hold regular, scheduled supervision with each support worker in your cohort,
documenting outcomes and agreed development actions
Conduct field observations of support delivery, monitoring quality, consistency, and adherence to support plans and Behaviour Support Plans
Coach workers in the moment and provide real-time feedback during field observations
Assess and sign off support-worker competency to implement Behaviour Support Plans, working with the Quality & Compliance Manager who owns the plans
Deliver and coordinate core practice training, including progress-note training, incident-reporting training, and practice-focused induction for new starters
Manage support-worker performance concerns that go beyond informal redirection, including formal performance improvement processes in collaboration with the HR Manager
Support workers through incident processes, providing practice guidance and debrief, and contributing to post-incident reviews from a workforce perspective
Coordinate with the Clinical Lead for clinical competency sign-off for workers delivering high-intensity supports
Key selection criteria
Your application should include a cover letter that addresses each of the following criteria:
1. Disability support and workforce development
Demonstrated experience in disability support work,
with substantial experience supervising, mentoring, or developing the practice of frontline support workers.
2. Coaching and feedback
The ability to observe practice in the field, coach in the moment, and give constructive feedback — including difficult feedback — with fairness and clarity.
3. NDIS and Positive Behaviour Support
Sound understanding of the NDIS, person-centred practice, the NDIS Code of Conduct, and Positive Behaviour Support, including familiarity with Behaviour Support Plans and assessing worker competency against them.
4. Practice training
Experience delivering practice training to frontline staff, such as progress-note training, incident reporting, or induction programs.
5. Organisational follow-through
Strong organisational follow-through for supervision records, competency sign-offs, and training documentation — because the evidence of a safe workforce lives in the paperwork.
To apply, you'll need
Certificate IV or Diploma in Disability, Community Services, or a related field (essential); degree desirable
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
Current First Aid and CPR certificates
Access to a reliable vehicle
