Status:
Full Time - Monday-Friday: 9am-5pm

Executive Manager, Quality & Compliance
Plus:
Superannuation at ATO SGP rate and excellent salary packaging

Yerrabi Yurwang Child & Family Aboriginal Corporation is recruiting for a Family Practitioner - Kids Mental Health & Wellbeing to work closely with Aboriginal families, community, Elders, and partner services to build strong relationships, trust, and pathways.
This includes both in-Hub support and outreach, helping ensure services are accessible to children and families in ways that feel safe, flexible and appropriate to their needs.
This role also requires the successful applicant to obtain a Community Agency Employee Consent (CAEC) assessment for clearance as per ACT Childcare Youth & Families - Health & Community Services Directorate, guidelines and requirements.
CAEC requirements are - completion of application and provision of current WWVP; current National Police Check; current Driver's License; current Drivers history and 10 years residential address history.
THE ORGANISATION:
Yerrabi Yurwang Child & Family Aboriginal Corporation (est. ****) and its affiliates Yerrabi Yurwang Health and Yerrabi Yurwang Housing (est. ****) (all referred to as Yerrabi Yurwang) were established due to the high unmet health and wellbeing needs of the local Aboriginal Community residing in Canberra's northwestern Ngunnawal region.
Yerrabi Yurwang means to 'walk strong' and was bestowed upon the organisation by our esteemed and respected Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, who was also a Founding Board Member and our Inaugural Patron.
Yerrabi Yurwang operates in the Northwest of the Australian Capital Territory, part of the traditional lands of the Ngunnawal People.
Yerrabi Yurwang is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO), which means it is owned and operated by Aboriginal People, for Aboriginal People,
and is committed to the principle of self-determination whereby we engage and empower Aboriginal People and their Families who utilise Yerrabi Yurwang's services and programs.
THE ROLE AND PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
A key part of the role is supporting engagement and cultural connection, including leading or contributing to activities that reflect and celebrate Aboriginal culture, knowledge, and community strengths.
The role embeds cultural safety across all aspects of service delivery, ensuring environments, communication and supports are respectful, inclusive and grounded in community.
The role recognises the importance of family in a child's wellbeing journey.
Services are designed to support not just individuals, but entire families, ensuring every family member is supported in maintaining their social, emotional, cultural and spiritual wellbeing.
This is a non-clinical role, focused on engagement, coordination, and navigation.
The position contributes to the effective day-to-day operation of the Hub and supports Yerrabi Yurwang's commitment to self-determination, community control, and improving outcomes for Aboriginal children, young people and families.
The role will:
provide a safe, inclusive and welcoming first point of contact for children and families in a co-located, custom built health facility in Tuggeranong
support intake, culturally appropriate triage, and navigation across the service and other relevant services, be a key point of contract for the families
prioritise children's voices, safety, inclusion, and wellbeing in all interactions
deliver in-Hub support and outreach activities to strengthen access and engagementbuild pathways with community, schools, early childhood services, and partner organisations
work collaboratively with clinical teams and community supports to ensure coordinated, wraparound care
contribute to a culturally strong, child-friendly environment that reduces barriers to access
support continuous improvement of services to ensure they remain responsive to community needs
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the delivery of culturally appropriate health and Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) services for Aboriginal children, young people, and their families.
Promote early support and prevention, helping children and families stay strong and connected.
Assist children, young people and families to access supports that meet their social, emotional, cultural and community needs.
Support the day-to-day operations of the Hub to ensure it runs smoothly and meets community needs.
Coordinate intake, referrals, bookings and follow-up in a timely and culturally appropriate way.
Work in line with ACCO principles, supporting self-determination and community leadership.
Ensure all interactions are culturally safe, respectful, and trauma informed.
Provide a welcoming, safe and inclusive workplace for children, young people, and families.
Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to support coordinated and connected care.
Build respectful relationships with the local Aboriginal community, including Elders and families.
Work collaboratively with teams to follow relevant policies and procedures to ensure services are safe, consistent, high quality and support the Medicare Kids Hub service model of care.
Work collaboratively with team members to maintain a supportive and respectful work environment.
MANDATORY TRAINING:
All relevant employees of Yerrabi Yurwang are required to complete Mandatory Training and program specific training upon commencement of employment and complete refresher training as required.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
Experience working with Aboriginal children, young people and families in community, wellbeing or support services.
Understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) and a commitment to working in a culturally safe and respectful way.
Demonstrated ability to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal children, families and community.
Experience in supporting intake, referrals, coordination, or day-to-day service delivery.
Strong communication skills and ability to engage in a positive and supportive way with children and families.
Ability to work as part of a team and contribute to a supportive and respectful workplace.
Understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches.
Ability to manage day-to-day responsibilities and work through competing priorities.
Understanding of responsibilities relating to child safety, privacy and confidentiality.
Connection to, or experience working with and/or in Aboriginal communities.
Experience working in an ACCO.
Knowledge of local services and community in the ACT region.
Relevant qualifications in community services or a related area.
Experience contributing to service improvement or quality activities.
