Most cyber security services tell people what to do after a breach or a scam. SelfCybr does the work for them.
We are an Australian company protecting households — not enterprises. Our members come to us after something has already gone wrong: a data breach, a scam, a hacked account, someone impersonating them online. As a Personal Cyber Security Expert, you are the person who picks up that case and fixes it.
What you will actually do
Run member cases end to end, from the first appointment through to closure, following documented playbooks.
Recover compromised accounts, reset credentials and multi-factor authentication, check devices, remove personal data from broker sites, and get fake profiles and impersonation accounts taken down.
Work directly with members by phone and video, including guided remote sessions on their devices with their consent.
Lodge reports and requests with platforms, telcos, banks and credit reporting bodies where the member has authorised us to act for them.
Explain what happened in plain language, set honest expectations about what can and cannot be recovered, and send a written summary at the end.
Pick up escalated triage, classify how responsible a case is, and start containment advice the same business day.
Keep case records and time entries to a standard a colleague could pick up cold.
Write up new playbook steps when a case exposes a gap, so the next person does it faster.
Who you will work with
Our support team handles onboarding, general enquiries and first-contact triage, and books your case appointments. You run the cases.
Critical and out-of-the-ordinary cases elevate to our Cyber Security Specialist — you will never be left holding something beyond the playbook on your own.
What this role is not
This is casework, not security operations. There is no alert console to watch, no SIEM to tune, no penetration testing. The work is people, process, evidence and follow-through. If you are calm with distressed people, methodical under pressure and genuinely good at explaining things, the technical parts are learnable — and we will teach them.
Members come to us frightened, embarrassed, and sometimes out of pocket. Nobody at SelfCybr makes them feel stupid for falling for a scam. Scams work because they are good.
Requirements
Experience guiding non-technical people through a stressful process and out the other side — service desk, case management, complaints or hardship, community services, contact centre, health administration, or similar.
Fast and confident across consumer platforms and account recovery: Google, Apple, Microsoft, Meta, banking and telco portals, password managers, multi-factor authentication.
Methodical by habit. You follow a documented process, record what you did, and notice when a step is missing.
Clear plain-English writing and speaking, with the judgement to know how much detail a person can take in at the time.
Sound discretion with highly sensitive personal information,
and the boundaries to work with distressed people without carrying it home.
Comfortable working alongside AI assistance and reviewing its output critically rather than trusting or ignoring it.
Australian work rights, and able to obtain a National Police Clearance.
Certificate IV or Diploma in information technology or cyber security, or equivalent practical experience.
Background in identity remediation, bank or telco fraud teams, scam response, financial counselling, or victim support.
Familiarity with Zoho (Desk, CRM, Creator, Assist) or comparable service platforms.
Trauma-informed practice training.
A second language spoken at conversational level.
Not required
Security certifications such as CISSP, CISM or OSCP, penetration testing, enterprise SOC experience, and scripting or programming ability are not required and are not weighted in shortlisting. We have built this role around documented process and good judgement, not specialist credentials. If you have that background and this still appeals, tell us why in your cover letter — but please do not assume it is what we are screening for.
Casual position with a six-month probation period.
Hybrid working after probation, from our Joondalup office.
Paid training and certification where it supports your case work.
A clear progression path: Personal Cyber Security Expert to Senior Case Expert to Cyber Security Specialist.
Small founding team. You will shape how this work is done rather than inherit someone else's process.
Work that visibly helps the people sitting in front of you, not a quarterly risk register.
