Clinic Manager – Wendouree Veterinary Clinic
Ballarat Veterinary Practice | Ballarat, Victoria
Lead a great team. Make a difference every day. Build your leadership career with BVP.
Are you an experienced veterinary nurse and people leader looking for an opportunity to take the next step in your career?
Ballarat Veterinary Practice is looking for a capable, positive and people-focused Clinic Manager to lead our team at our Wendouree Clinic.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being at the heart of a busy veterinary clinic: supporting people, keeping operations running smoothly, developing team capability and creating an environment where great patient care and great teamwork can happen.
You'll lead an established team of veterinary nurses and receptionists, work closely with the veterinarians and Partner at the clinic, and be part of a broader leadership team across BVP's Companion Animal business.
About BVP
Ballarat Veterinary Practice is a large, progressive veterinary business with a long and proud history in the Ballarat community.
Our Companion Animal business currently includes four established clinics across Ballarat, with our fifth clinic in Bacchus Marsh now in development. Together with our Equine hospital and ambulatory services, we offer the scale, capability and opportunities of a large veterinary organisation while remaining strongly connected to the communities we serve.
But what matters most to us is our people.
Our values of Teamwork, Respect, Professionalism and Compassion guide the way we work and the expectations we have of ourselves and one another.
We are proud to be recognised as an AVA Employer of Choice, and we continue to invest in creating a workplace where people can develop their skills, progress their careers and enjoy being part of a strong and supportive team.
Career development is actively encouraged and supported. We invest in clinical development, CPD and leadership development, and we believe strongly in identifying potential within our team and creating opportunities for people to grow.
We also understand the importance of having a life outside work. Our Companion Animal teams work an eight-day fortnight, providing regular additional time away from the clinic and supporting a more sustainable career in veterinary practice.
About the role
As Clinic Manager, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day functional operation of our Wendouree Clinic and provide leadership to its nursing and administration teams.
You'll be a visible and approachable leader who understands what is happening within the clinic, supports your team and works collaboratively with veterinarians and other leaders to keep people, patients,
clients and operations moving in the right direction.
A big part of your role will be developing people.
You'll support the onboarding and development of new Team Members, oversee nursing training and capability development, provide regular feedback and help your team continue to build their skills and confidence. You'll also play an important role in welcoming and supporting new graduate veterinarians as they become established within the clinic.
You'll balance this people leadership with oversight of the practical things that make a busy clinic work well: staffing and workflow, the appointment diary, facilities and equipment, stock, safety, administration and operational efficiency.
And you won't be doing it alone.
You'll be part of BVP's broader Companion Animal leadership group, working alongside other Clinic Managers and supported by senior operational leaders, HR and our Companion Animal Directors.
What will you be doing?
Your responsibilities will include:
leading, supporting and developing the Wendouree nursing and administration teams
creating a positive, respectful and accountable team culture aligned with BVP's values
supporting effective clinic workflow, staffing and resource allocation
overseeing onboarding, training and ongoing development of Team Members
providing feedback, conducting performance reviews and supporting people to perform at their best
working collaboratively with the veterinary team to support excellent patient care and client service
supporting new graduate veterinarians as they integrate into the clinic
maintaining oversight of clinic facilities, equipment, stock and operational requirements
contributing to workplace health and safety and maintaining a safe environment for Team Members, patients and clients
understanding the operational and financial performance of the clinic and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity and service
participating in broader BVP leadership initiatives and collaborating with other Clinic Managers across our Companion Animal group
remaining clinically connected through nursing duties and nurse consultations when required.
About you
We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys leading people.
You'll be organised, approachable and confident, with the ability to bring people together and maintain perspective when things get busy.
You don't need to have all the answers yourself. You do need to be someone who takes ownership, communicates well, uses sound judgement and knows when to make a decision and when to seek input or support.
You'll ideally bring:
previous leadership experience within a veterinary or similar setting
a Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing or equivalent qualification
strong veterinary nursing experience and a good understanding of the realities of working in a busy veterinary clinic
excellent communication and relationship-building skills
a genuine interest in developing and supporting other people
strong organisation and the ability to balance multiple competing priorities
confidence handling difficult conversations, client concerns and day-to-day people matters professionally
sound commercial awareness and an interest in understanding how a successful clinic operates
a commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
emotional maturity, initiative and a solutions-focused approach
strong alignment with our values of Teamwork, Respect, Professionalism and Compassion.
Our position description identifies previous leadership experience as essential, while a Certificate IV Veterinary Nursing qualification and at least five years of in-clinic experience are preferred. If you have strong veterinary experience and leadership capability but your background looks a little different, we would still encourage you to apply.
Why BVP?
Because this can be more than your next veterinary nursing job.
It's an opportunity to lead your own clinic team, continue developing as a leader and build a longer-term career within a growing veterinary organisation.
You'll have the support of an established leadership structure around you, while still having meaningful responsibility for your clinic and the opportunity to influence how it operates.
You'll also benefit from:
an eight-day fortnight and genuine focus on sustainable working arrangements
ongoing professional and leadership development
opportunities for career progression within a large and growing veterinary business
the support and knowledge of an experienced network of Clinic Managers and senior leaders
the variety and professional opportunities that come from working within a multi-site veterinary group
a workplace built around Teamwork, Respect, Professionalism and Compassion
the chance to work for an AVA Employer of Choice committed to making BVP a great place to build a veterinary career.
Could this be your next step?
If you're an experienced veterinary nurse who loves working with people, enjoys taking responsibility and is ready to make a positive impact as a clinic leader, we'd love to hear from you.
