The founder of this brokerage loves talking to clients.
He has lost his love for payslips.
He spent around 15 years in lending at one of the major banks before starting his own brokerage, and a lot of his clients followed him.
His co-director joined a year later, after more than a decade at the same bank.
Today there are three brokers, a six-person operations team offshore, and a client base built almost entirely on client referrals.
The business is trading well, and that is where the pressure sits.
The founder still writes a large volume himself, so the financials, the payslips, the credit comments, the bank questions and the exceptions all land on his desk.
That time should be going into growing the business.
He tried hiring brokers first.
What he learned is that a new broker costs him time, because he is the one training them.
What the business needs is a credit specialist who learns how they do things, then teaches it to everyone who comes after.
The offshore team first, then every broker the business adds as it grows.
That is the seat we are filling.
Why this one stands out
You set how credit is done.
Everyone who joins after you follows the process you build.
You teach.
The offshore operations team learns from you, then every new broker does too.
The growth is real.
The founder wants to grow the broker team, and this hire is what lets him do it.
As it grows, there is a path into broking, operations or management.
Compliance comes first.
The founder would take a broker writing $40m cleanly over one writing $100m with shortcuts.
Nobody here will ask you to cut a corner.
A new office on top of St Leonards station from January ****.
Your commute ends at the platform.
What your week looks like
Taking files from the brokers and working through financials,
payslips and bank statements
Assessing servicing and policy across the lender panel
Writing credit comments and submissions that go in clean
Handling lender questions, missing information and exceptions through to approval
Mostly residential: first home buyers, people buying their next home and investors, with SMSF lending and the occasional commercial deal
Speaking with clients by phone and in meetings.
Many have been with the founders for years, so how you communicate matters
Covering the pipeline when the principals travel, which they do
Training and lifting the offshore team, then each new broker who joins
About you
At least 3 years in residential credit inside a brokerage.
You know lender policy across the panel and can plug in without months of hand-holding.
NCCP residential lending experience.
A commercial-only background will not suit.
You have stayed in roles long enough to get properly valuable at them.
You are clear and confident on the phone and in front of clients.
You care about compliance as much as the founder does.
You want a career in credit.
If you are planning to write your own loans in six months, this is not the seat.
Once the broker team has grown, that conversation is open.
Package and growth
******k + super, depending on experience
Permanent, full time, office based
Reporting directly to the founder
A path into broking, operations or management as the business grows
What it is like
Direct conversations and quick decisions.
The founder says what he thinks and wants the same back.
If you have a better way of doing something, you bring it to the team, and if it works, it becomes how things are done.
The team works from the office and likes it that way.
The founder would rather wait three or four months for the right person than fill this seat fast.
That tells you how much this hire matters to him.
