The Anindilyakwa Land Council (ALC) represents the Traditional Owners of the Groote Archipelago. The ALC is a 'future-forward' Land Council, directed by the 14 clans of the Groote Archipelago region, enabling the Anindilyakwa people to take full advantage of the opportunities and technology available in the 21st century, while simultaneously preserving land, language and culture.
About the role:
The Plant Biosecurity Coordinator reports to the Land & Sea Manager and is responsible for coordinating and delivering weed management activities required under GEMCO's Biodiversity Offsets Management Plan (BOMP). The role supports the successful implementation of the offsets program by planning, facilitating and reporting on strategic weed management actions across the Groote Archipelago, outside of GEMCO's existing mining tenements, to protect the region's environmental, cultural, social and economic values.
Working closely with ALC Rangers, the position provides operational coordination, mentoring and training to build internal capability while supporting routine weed management activities. The role maintains a solid working relationship with GEMCO's Environmental Department, including a functional reporting line in relation to BOMP actions and progress, and liaises with key stakeholders such as GEMCO's rehabilitation teams, specialist contractors and local council. Through collaboration, monitoring and reporting, the Plant Biosecurity Coordinator ensures that BOMP targets, timeframes and outcomes are achieved in line with legislative approval requirements.
