About the Opportunity
Australia Cruise Group is seeking an experienced and passionate Sous Chef to join our professional kitchen team aboard the Showboat 2, operating from the iconic King Street Wharf, Sydney.
Working closely with our Head Chef, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality dining experiences to our guests while supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the kitchen.
This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled Sous Chef looking to take the next step in their career within a unique harbour cruise and tourism environment.
The Role
As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef to maintain consistently high standards of food quality, presentation, hygiene and kitchen operations.
Assisting with the preparation, development and execution of menus
Producing consistently high-quality dishes with excellent presentation and flavour
Supporting the Head Chef with daily kitchen operations and food preparation
Planning and coordinating food preparation and monitoring product quality
Ensuring food is prepared and served efficiently and to required standards
Supervising, mentoring and training kitchen team members
Assisting with staff scheduling and performance management
Maintaining effective stock control and minimising food wastage
Taking initiative and confidently resolving operational challenges
Maintaining a clean, organised and efficient kitchen environment
Ensuring strict compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety standards
Maintaining a positive, professional and team-focused working environment
About You
We are looking for a confident and hands-on Sous Chef who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen and takes pride in delivering consistently high standards.
You will ideally have:
Minimum 2 years' experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar senior kitchen role
Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, equipment and kitchen procedures
Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a kitchen team
Excellent organisational and time-management skills
The ability to remain calm and make effective decisions under pressure
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality
Knowledge of current food safety and industry best practices
Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification (preferred)
Previous cruise, hotel, function or high-volume catering experience (highly regarded)
Robust communication and teamwork skills
Unrestricted Australian working rights – Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident preferred
