Warrambeen is a historic, family-run farm near Shelford, combining high-quality Merino sheep, Angus cattle, and cropping with a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. We actively protect and manage approximately 930 hectares of critically endangered Victorian Volcanic Plains (VVP) native grassland offsets.
We are expanding our team and seeking an experienced, high-calibre
Senior Bush Crew Member
to step in as
2IC
to our Land Manager, helping us hit ambitious weed control targets and protect these vital high-value ecological sites.
The Role
As 2IC, you will play a crucial, hands-on role in daily field operations while stepping up to lead small backpacker crews during spring and summer.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Target Delivery:
Work closely with the Land Manager to coordinate daily field tasks, lead small teams, and hit seasonal weed control targets safely and efficiently.
Targeted Weed Management:
Execute precise weed control strategies across high-value remnant native grasslands (predominantly knapsack and spot spraying).
Botanical & Grassland Management:
Utilise strong plant identification skills to protect remnant flora while identifying and treating complex invasive species.
Reporting:
Keep clean, accurate field records and data to support compliance and offset weed tracking.
What We Are Looking For
Demonstrated Field Experience:
Solid, hands-on background in bush regeneration, land care, or ecological offset management.
Plant Identification Skills:
Strong, reliable plant ID skills (native flora vs. invasive weeds), ideally within Victorian Volcanic Plains (VVP) grassland systems.
Crew Leadership:
Proven ability to supervise, mentor, and motivate small teams in demanding outdoor conditions.
Target Driven & Autonomous:
Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently from supervisor to reach weed control goals.
Physical Fitness:
Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions with a high standard of personal accountability.
Desirable / Qualifications
Valid Australian Drivers Licence
Qualifications in Conservation & Ecosystem Management (CLM), Natural Resource Management (NRM), or related environmental field.
Current Agricultural Chemical User Permit (ACUP) preferred.
Basic GIS mapping / spatial data collection skills.
