Leadership Role for an Experienced Dental Assistant
Some dental assistants are happy to look after their own surgery and leave it at that. Others just can't help themselves. They notice when a newer team member looks unsure. They quietly show someone a better way to set up a tray. They feel a real sense of pride when the whole team is running smoothly, not just their own room.
If youre the second kind, and youve been wondering whats next for you, please keep reading.
Mornington Peninsula Dental Clinic is a busy, well-established nine-chair practice in the heart of Mornington. Weve been part of this community since the ****s, and are proud of the reputation we've built for caring, high-quality dentistry. We're looking for an experienced dental assistant who loves teaching, leading and lifting the standard for everyone around them.
The Role
As our Clinical Coordinator, youll be the go-to person for our dental assisting team. Youll lead them day-to-day, train and mentor them, and make sure our surgeries, stock and sterilisation all run to the standard our patients and clinicians deserve.
This is a hands-on role. Youll still be close to the chair and close to the team, but youll also be the one keeping an eye on the bigger picture, making sure nothing slips through the cracks and that every assistant knows what good looks like and has the support to get there.
What Youll Be Doing
Training and mentoring our dental assistants, helping them build their skills and their confidence
Being the main point of contact for the dental assisting team, so they always know who to come to
Leading the morning huddle with the dental assisting team, setting everyone up for a smooth and well-organised day
Overseeing stock levels and coordinating ordering, so surgeries have what they need without waste or last-minute scrambles
Overseeing our sterilisation processes and making sure our standards are met every day, not just most days
Checking each surgery at the end of the day to make sure stock, cleanliness and instrument counts are all where they should be
Holding the team accountable for completing their duties and keeping standards consistent, with warmth, fairness and follow-through
Who We Re Looking For
Experience and Clinical Know-How
Solid experience as a dental assistant in a busy general practice. A Certificate III or IV in Dental Assisting is well regarded, but what matters most is that youve done the work and know what excellent chairside assisting and surgery management look like
A strong understanding of infection control and sterilisation, and the confidence to guide others through it
Experience with stock control and ordering, or a real knack for staying organised and on top of the detail
Any previous experience as a senior, lead or head dental assistant will be a big plus, though were just as keen to hear from someone who has been the unofficial leader of their team for a while
Leadership and Training
You love teaching. Seeing someone grow in confidence because of your support is one of the best parts of your day
Youre patient and encouraging, and you explain things clearly without making anyone feel small
Youre comfortable having honest conversations when standards slip, and you can do it kindly and directly
People naturally come to you for help and advice, and you enjoy being that person
Mindset and Character
You take pride in doing things properly, whether or not anyone is watching
Youre reliable and consistent, and the team can count on you to follow through
You bring calm, steady energy, especially on the busy days
Youre always looking for ways to do things better, and youre open to feedback yourself
You care about patients, about your team, and about the practice as a whole
What We Offer
A role where you can make a real difference and shape how our dental assisting team works
Above-award pay for the right person, reflecting the leadership side of the role
Ongoing professional development, including leadership support and training
A practice that is investing in its systems, training and culture, so you will be part of something that keeps getting better
Support from our Practice Manager and an experienced dental business consulting team working alongside the practice
A practice owner who is hands-on, approachable and invested in his team
A beautiful, custom-built nine-chair practice in a fantastic spot on the Mornington Peninsula
