Injury Management & Occupational Health Specialist (OHN, Physio or OT)
Injury Management & Occupational Health Specialist (OHN, Physio or OT)
Goulburn NSW | Permanent full time | Monday to Friday
Competitive salary + super + company vehicle + bonus
Are you an occupational health nurse, physiotherapist or occupational therapist working for a workplace rehabilitation provider, and ready to move in-house with one employer? This role lets you see each case through, get to know the people and the jobs, and help prevent the next injury rather than only manage it.
Aviagen is looking for a specialist to take ownership of injury management, workers compensation, return to work and occupational health across its NSW operations. Based in Goulburn (an easy commute from Canberra and the Southern Highlands) and reporting to the HR Manager, you will support around 180 to 200 employees across the Goulburn, Bowral, Wellington and Wagga Wagga sites.
This is a hands‐on role with considerable autonomy. You will get to know the people and the work, help employees recover safely and support managers to make sound decisions about health and work capacity. You will work closely with the Health & Safety Business Partner and the HR team.
What you will do
Manage workers compensation and injury management from notification through to closure, including complex, prolonged and psychological injury claims
Review Certificates of Capacity, assess job demands, identify suitable duties, and develop and monitor practical return‐to‐work plans
Coordinate treatment and rehabilitation with treating practitioners, insurers and rehabilitation providers, including case conferences and specialist assessments
Identify barriers to recovery and escalation complex matters with insurers, providers and legal advisers

Manage fitness for work for work‐related and non‐work‐related injury and illness, including temporary restrictions and workplace adjustments
Lead early intervention, ergonomic assessments and injury prevention in consultation with workers and managers
Run pre‐employment and periodic health assessments, drug and alcohol testing and respirator fit testing (training provided), and coordinate external clinical services, immunisation and occupational hygiene monitoring
Support psychosocial risk management, employee wellbeing and workplace health education
Keep confidential records and report on claims costs, lost time and return‐to‐work outcomes
Develop and review occupational health and injury management procedures
Travel to Bowral, Wellington and Wagga Wagga is part of the role, and you will have the flexibility to plan the timing and length of visits. Some visits include overnight stays, and occasionally you may need to travel at short notice after a serious injury. A company vehicle is provided.
About you
You are an occupational health nurse, physiotherapist, occupational therapist or other health professional with current AHPRA registration (or the accreditation relevant to your profession) and solid experience in workplace injury management. You might be a rehabilitation consultant with a workplace rehab provider, a return‐to‐work coordinator,

or an OHN working in industry.
You will bring:
Experience independently managing injury cases, workers compensation claims and return to work, including complex physical and psychological injuries
Working knowledge of NSW workers compensation, injury management and return‐to‐work requirements
Confidence turning medical and capacity information into practical suitable duties and workplace adjustments
Experience working with insurers, treating practitioners and rehabilitation providers
The organisation to manage a varied caseload across several sites on your own
Sound judgement, discretion and a practical, empathetic approach
A current driver's licence
Highly regarded:
experience in health surveillance (audiometry, spirometry, drug and alcohol or fit testing), ergonomic assessment, using claims and injury data to improve outcomes, and NSW Return to Work Coordinator training (or willingness to complete it).
What is on offer
competitive salary + super + bonus
Company vehicle for work travel
Monday to Friday, with no on‐call roster (occasionally you may need to respond to a reliable incident outside hours)
Paid training and development, including Return to Work Coordinator, audiometry, spirometry and fit testing
Autonomy and a direct say in how injury management and prevention are done across Aviagen's NSW sites
About Aviagen
Aviagen is the world's leading poultry breeding company, with operations across Australia and internationally. The Australian operation is based in Goulburn, with sites at Bowral, Wellington and Wagga Wagga. Its people are central to its operations, and this role makes a practical contribution to their health, safety and wellbeing.
