About the Role
We have an exciting new opportunity for an AI SolutionsSpecialist to help turn the firm's investment in AI into practicalimprovements in how our legal and business services teams work. Therole will focus on identifying valuable use cases, buildingeffective solutions and helping teams adopt them in day-to-daywork.
Reporting to Jan Hards, Partner and Head of AI, you will join asmall, high-impact team working directly with lawyers and businessservices teams. You will identify practical AI opportunities, buildworkflows using the firm's AI tools and help teams embed thosesolutions in their day-to-day work. You will assist the firm intaking use cases from an initial idea through scoping, testing andimplementation to adoption, combining hands-on technical capabilitywith strong interpersonal and coaching skills.
This role offers direct exposure to legal practice, technologyimplementation and firm-wide change. You will have substantialscope to shape how JWS identifies, develops and adopts AIsolutions, with genuine career development opportunities as thefirm's AI capability evolves.
The role is Sydney-based, though candidates in other JWS officelocations will be considered. Some travel between offices may beinvolved to support firm-wide engagement and adoption.
Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
Work with lawyers and business services teams to identify,scope and prioritise practical opportunities where AI canimprove legal and non-legal workflows, enhance client service,and generate efficiencies.
Work hands-on with colleagues to design, build, test andrefine AI-enabled automations and workflows using Harvey,Microsoft Copilot or other firm-approved generative AI toolsthat solve legal or business problems for lawyers and supportstaff.
Build engagement with AI across the firm through proactiveoutreach, one-to-one coaching, small-group sessions andtailored demonstrations. You will help colleagues identifyrelevant uses for approved AI tools, develop confidence throughpractical application and incorporate effective solutions intotheir day-to-day work.
Help practice groups and business services teams build andrefine reusable prompt libraries, playbooks and workflowtemplates that can be applied consistently across thefirm.
Assist lawyers to translate legal processes and pain pointsinto transparent use cases, prompts and simple workflows that can bebuilt, tested and iterated quickly with the people who will usethem.
Apply the firm's responsible AI, governance,confidentiality and information security requirementsthroughout the design, testing and deployment of solutions,escalating risks or uncertainties when necessary.
Monitor developments in legal AI tools and platforms,assess their relevance to the firm and translate worthwhiledevelopments into practical recommendations, experiments orsolutions.
About You
You are passionate about applying AI to legal practice andthrive on turning ideas into practical, working solutions. You alsobring:
Current or recent experience in an AI, legal technology,legal engineering or innovation role within a law firm,professional services organisation or provider of technologysolutions to the legal sector.
A legal background or legal practice experience is highlyregarded, including an understanding of legal workflows,drafting, document review or professional services deliverygained through legal practice, paralegal experience, or workingclosely with lawyers.
Demonstrated experience using generative AI tools such asHarvey and Microsoft Copilot to solve workplace problems,including designing prompts, configuring repeatable workflowsand testing outputs with users. You do not need to be asoftware developer, but you must be comfortable learning newtools and building practical solutions with minimalsupervision.
Confidence working directly with and speaking to lawyersand stakeholders at all levels, with the ability to buildrapport and trust quickly.
Excellent interpersonal, coaching and communication skills,with a proven ability to engage, upskill and build confidencein non-technical users.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with theability to translate a business or legal process into a clear,buildable use case.
Solid project management skills, including the ability toscope, prioritise and deliver initiatives with minimaloversight.
Experience designing and delivering training,demonstrations or coaching sessions to lawyers, partners andnon-technical staff.
A genuine 'doer' mindset where you are comfortable gettinghands-on and iterating quickly.
Exposure to other AI or legal technology platforms,including Claude and ChatGPT, is desirable. Familiarity withresponsible AI principles, governance frameworks or technologyrisk controls will also be well regarded.
A curious and proactive approach, with the resilience andadaptability to work in a fast-moving area. You are energisedby helping others learn and adopt new technology, whileremaining pragmatic about what will deliver genuine value.
Sound judgement about confidentiality, information securityand the responsible use of AI, including the confidence toidentify concerns and seek guidance when required.
