First Nations Advocates Against Family Violence (FNAAFV) is seeking an experienced Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander leader to join our national team as
Manager, Policy and Sector Development
.
This is a unique opportunity to influence national policy reform, strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-controlled organisations, and contribute to safer futures for our women, children, families and communities.
Working remotely from anywhere in Australia, you will help ensure that the voices, expertise and priorities of Family Violence Prevention and Legal Services (FVPLSs) are reflected in policy, advocacy, sector development and funding decisions at a national level.

About Us
FNAAFV is the national peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Family Violence Prevention and Legal Services (FVPLSs) across Australia.
Our members are community-controlled organisations delivering culturally secure legal and holistic support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people impacted by family violence, particularly women and children.
FNAAFV supports national efforts to advance self-determination, strengthen community-controlled services and improve outcomes for First Nations peoples.
About the Role
Identified Position : This position is open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Manager, Policy and Sector Development provides leadership across FNAAFV's policy, advocacy, grants, sector development and project functions.
You will lead a skilled team and work closely with member organisations, government agencies, funding bodies and strategic partners to ensure our work delivers meaningful outcomes for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander family violence prevention and legal assistance sector.
This is a strategic leadership role with responsibility for driving organisational priorities, strengthening sector capability and shaping national conversations that impact First Nations communities.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and support a high-performing team through culturally safe, collaborative and strengths-based leadership.
Oversee policy development, submissions, advocacy initiatives and strategic projects.
Assist the CEO to ensure member priorities and sector intelligence inform FNAAFV's policy and advocacy positions.
Coordinate portfolio planning across policy, grants, projects, member engagement and sector development activities.
Build and maintain strong relationships with member services, government agencies, funders and sector partners.
Monitor performance, risk, reporting obligations and funding deliverables.
Support the CEO in advancing organisational priorities and representing FNAAFV in national forums.
About You
You are a values-driven leader who is passionate about advancing the rights, safety and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Essential Requirements
Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identity and a strong understanding of cultural safety, self-determination and community control.
Demonstrated leadership experience, including managing teams and supporting staff development and wellbeing.
Experience in law reform and/or legal practice highly desirable.
Experience in policy, advocacy, sector development, program delivery or strategic project management.
Strong stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build trusted relationships across community, government and partner organisations.
Highly developed communication, strategic thinking and organisational skills.
Qualifications in public policy, law, social science, community services, management or a related field.
What We Offer
Salary of
$140,000 to $150,000 plus Superannuation
Immediate start available for the right candidate.
