The Administrative Review Tribunal (ART) is seeking anexperienced
EL1 Assistant Director Cyber Assessment andAdvice
to support the Tribunal in a Cyber Securityadvisory, assessment and assurance capacity within the EnterpriseTechnology Group (ETG) branch.
This hybrid role is a 2-year non-ongoing opportunity that can be located in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne or Sydney.
Remuneration:
The annual salary range forthe position is EL1 $121,755 - $143,202 p.a., plus a generousemployer superannuation contribution of 15.4%.
About the opportunity
You will lead security assessment and assurance activities andcontribute to the development of consistent security architecturepatterns across multiple concurrent initiatives.
You will develop and maintain high-quality security artefactsthat support the integrity, resilience and continuous improvementof the Tribunals technology setting. As a trusted advisor, youwill assess proposed solutions and third-party technologies toensure they are safe, secure and fit for purpose. You will alsowork at the intersection of technology, privacy and security,embedding strong cyber hygiene practices into business andtechnology design through early engagement, guidance andeducation.
This role reports to the Director, Technology Security, Risk andAssurance and works closely with APS staff, Members, internaltechnology teams and managed service providers. You will contributeto both business-as-usual operations and project deliveryactivities.
The TSRA team is a collaborative group focused on securityarchitecture, engineering and assurance, with four team membersdedicated to cyber security operations. The team operates flexiblyacross Australia, with options to work from the office, in a hybridarrangement or remotely. Work is planned and delivered using agileapproaches such as Scrum and Scrumban.
The team culture is supportive, inclusive and outcomes focused,with a solid emphasis on continuous improvement and constructivechallenge. The Enterprise Technology Group actively supports staffwellbeing and ensures workload and mental health considerationsremain central to how work is managed.
About you:
To be successful you will have:




Strong curiosity and enthusiasm for emerging technologiesand be able to apply this knowledge pragmatically to enablesecure business outcomes
Ability to comfortably work across Microsoft cloudtechnologies including Entra, Dynamics 365, Defender, Copilot,Fabric and Azure services
Ability to apply traditional security and risk managementframeworks to modern cloud-based architectures and understandhow contemporary design patterns can reduce risk whileimproving business flexibility
Solid analytical and reasoning skills, with the ability totranslate complex technical risks into clear and meaningfulbusiness advice
Ability to work autonomously, ask thoughtful questions andconsistently challenge the status quo to improve outcomeswithout compromising security posture.
Understanding on how to apply Australian Government cybersecurity frameworks, privacy legislation, AI governance andenterprise risk management practices.
Qualifications
Desirable:
Academic or Vocational certification in Technology and/orappropriate industry better practice standards and frameworkswith specialisation in cyber security (e.g. CISM, CISSP, CCSP,CISA, GIAC)
Vocational certification in modern software developmentlifecycle methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, XP, SAFe
Vocational certification in modern design and governanceframeworks such as TOGAF, COBIT or SABSA
Eligibility:
Australian Citizenship
Requirement to undertake an Australian Federal Police Checkand complete a health declaration.
Security Clearance - Have or be eligible to obtain aNegative Vetting Level 1 Security Clearance
