We are seeking a
Molecular Scientist (Grade 1)
to join our highly specialised
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT)
laboratory in Collingwood, Melbourne. About the Team
The PGT Laboratory is a highly specialised diagnostic service focused on preimplantation genetic testing and single-cell molecular technologies. Working closely alongside clinicians and embryologists, our scientists perform genetic testing on embryo samples to help patients make informed reproductive decisions.
Our team is known for its technical excellence, collaborative culture, commitment to quality and continuous learning. We operate within a highly regulated clinical environment where accuracy, traceability and patient outcomes are at the centre of everything we do.
About the Role
This is a varied, hands‐on laboratory role that combines molecular testing, sample management,



quality‐controlled laboratory processes and laboratory administration.
You will progressively receive training across a range of specialised laboratory methodologies and will only undertake procedures independently following competency assessment and sign‐off.
Responsibilities include:
Laboratory Processing
DNA extraction from clinical samples
PCR processing and molecular genetic testing workflows
SNP array
Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)
Working with low‐input samples where precision and contamination control are essential
Sample Management & Administration
Receiving and registering specimens from clinics and laboratories
Maintaining accurate records and laboratory documentation
Managing specimen tracking and traceability requirements
Maintaining laboratory databases and spreadsheets
Assisting with ordering reagents, consumables and laboratory supplies
Quality & Compliance
Following established laboratory procedures and quality systems
Participating in witness checking processes and specimen verification
Ensuring accurate sample identification, labelling and documentation
Supporting accreditation, compliance and quality management requirements
About You
We are looking for someone who is collaborative, highly organised and genuinely enjoys working in a quality‐focused environment where attention to detail matters.
Essential
Degree qualification in Genetics, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Science or a related biological science discipline




Practical experience and understanding of molecular biology techniques
Strong organisational and time management skills
Excellent attention to detail and ability to maintain concentration during complex laboratory procedures
Strong data entry and Excel skills
Ability to work effectively within a team environment
Understanding of confidentiality and privacy obligations
Commitment to laboratory safety and quality standards
Highly Desirable
Clinical diagnostic laboratory experience
Molecular diagnostics experience
Genetics laboratory experience
DNA extraction experience
PCR experience
Exposure to NGS workflows
Experience working within regulated, quality‐controlled laboratory environments
