About the role
Barwon Health's Mental Health, Drugs and Alcohol Services (MHDAS) provides specialist care across the region. The Mental Health Education Team (MHET) supports that workforce through a dedicated multidisciplinary team. MHET delivers contemporary, evidence-informed learning and development aligned with both discipline specific and core mental health workforce capability frameworks, current standards and legislation. The team works with our Lived Experience Workforce to embed coproduction in education. It also partners with Barwon Health's Centre for Education and Training, universities, TAFEs and statewide bodies such as the Victorian Collaborative Centre and the Office of the Chief Mental Health Nurse.
As Senior Psychiatric Nurse, you'll manage the MHET team and shape how our mental health workforce learns and grows. This includes relevant mandatory training for the mental health workforce. Working closely with the Director of Nursing, you'll develop and deliver the MHET workplan and other priority initiatives within MHDAS and the broader health service. You'll contribute to ensuring best practice standards are translated into practice, facilitate the provision of professional supervision and support of workforce to ensure the effective delivery of learning and develop to support increased competence and capability of staff.



This is a senior role for a clinical leader who is passionate about nurturing staff growth and bringing innovation to how we develop our people.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage the MHET team, including operations, development of briefings and reports, effective provision of line supervision, performance development and reporting against KPIs
Develop and oversee effective implementation of mental health training and development for our workforce
Lead the annual review of the MHET learning and development calendar
Further embed clinical supervision across the service
Support the advancement and utilisation of mental health nursing research outcomes into clinical practice, policy and procedures
Champion coproduction, evaluation and continuous improvement
Where delegated by the DON, represent mental health nursing internally and externally, leading nurse-led projects and supporting the implementation of new models of care and best practice
What We Are Looking For
You're an experienced mental health nursing leader with a strong background in learning and development, and a genuine commitment to nurturing the professional growth of others. You build effective relationships in a pressured, fast-paced environment, and you use data and evidence to guide your decisions.



You proactively engage in clinical supervision and are familiar with Chief Mental Health Nurse frameworks and associated transformation actions
Current AHPRA registration as a Division 1 Registered Nurse with specialist psychiatric/mental health nursing qualifications
At least 10 years' experience in mental health, including senior leadership roles in a complex public health setting
Meet all requirements of the Position Description and relevant Enterprise Agreement
