About the Branch
The
Engineering, Assets & Quality (EAQ)
Branchuses engineering, asset management, project management and qualityassurance expertise to help the whole Mint succeed by making oursystems safer, more reliable, more efficient and easier to work in.We support our colleagues, customers, and the public by reducingdefects and downtime, improving throughput, enabling new products,and strengthening the processes that shape Australia's coinage. Ourpurpose is to care for the systems that care for the Mint, and tocontinuously improve them so people can do theirbest work.
The EAQ branch includes consists of the following teams:
Process Engineering (PE):
Responsible forensuring the minting processes are stable, efficient, safe, andcapable of producing the high-quality products at the requiredvolume.
Product & Tooling Engineering (PTE):
Responsible for design models, specifications and continuousimprovement of production tooling and product packaging.
Industrial Engineering (IE):
Responsibleensuring the production systems (mechanical, electrical,automation and digital) are designed, integrated andcontinuously improved to deliver secure, reliable, efficient andfuture-ready contemporary manufacturing capabilities tooptimise equipment and material handling performance, automateprocess,
enhance data visibility and enable precision mintingat scale.
Project Management Office (PMO):
Responsible for setting the organisational direction throughcorporate planning, strategic alignment, prioritisation andhorizon scanning and administering the work plan to deliverstrategic priorities.
Quality Assurance (QA):
Responsible forquality control, defect analysis, precision measurement, andstandards compliance.
Asset Management (AM):
Responsible forasset lifecycle and reliability management, technical problemsolving and undertaking of major projects.
About the Role
The SeniorEngineer/Technician will work in a team of engineers andtechnicians to deliver complex projects, develop productioncapability, run process improvement initiatives and supportmanufacturing activities. The successful candidate will be placedin the team most relevant to their skills, experience andprofessional interests, however there will be opportunities to workclosely with other teams and cross-skill. A brief description ofthe three engineering functions is provided below.
Industrial Engineering
A Senior Engineer/Technician in the Industrial Engineering team isresponsible for conducting projects to improve existing industrialprocesses through procurement or internal development of machineryand automation. They will also be providing technical support forthe operation of existing production machines and equipment,including mechanical design support for parts and tooling, andassisting operation areas in achieving and maintaining compliancewith the relevant machine safety requirements.
Product & Tooling Engineering
A Senior Engineer/Technician in the Product & Tooling Engineeringteam is responsible for developing and maintaining new coinproducts and packaging capabilities. They will work collaborativelywith the Sales, Marketing and production teams to develop collectorand investment products for Mint customers.
The role involvesconnecting marketing requirements with structured trials andexperimentation to establish capability, then developing themanufacturing methods and processes with the Processes Engineeringteam for implementation into the production environment.
Process Engineering
A Senior Engineer/Technician in the Process Engineering teamprovides production support, process development and continuousimprovement across all manufacturing areas. This is achieved byworking closely with production teams, implementing Lean and otherindustry best-practice methods, providing troubleshooting support,and ensuring established production throughput and product qualitytargets are maintained.
The Duties
Applying Systems Engineering principles to designsystems that are safe, functional, and cost effective
Developing documentation to align with establishedquality, safety, and risk management systems
Presenting information in a variety of formatsincluding presentations and technical reports and conductingeffective meetings
Applying Project Management principles to plan,manage and deliver complex projects
Engaging with stakeholders and customers fromvarious backgrounds and technical abilities to gather information,provide updates, and manage expectations
Working with production staff and other engineersto identify, plan, and undertake projects to improve processproductivity and safety
Conducting independent research of standards,academic literature, and other reference material to determineproject requirements and best practice
Providing sound technical and engineering advicewithin own scope of knowledge and training in a professionalmanner
Identifying and pursuing opportunities forself-development
Qualifications
Senior Engineer
- A Bachelor of Engineering froman Australian institution, or a qualification gained elsewhere that satisfies the requirements of the Washington Accord for recognitionas a Professional Engineer.
Senior Technician
- A diploma in a relevantfield.
