Electrical Engineer / PLC Programmer - Contract
Melbourne | Initial 3-Month Contract | Potential to Extend
Conveyor Logistics is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer / PLC Programmer to join our engineering team on an initial 3-month contract, with the potential to extend for the right candidate.
We design and deliver warehouse automation and material handling systems, including conveyor systems, automated equipment and integrated control solutions.
This is a hands-on engineering role covering both electrical system design and PLC programming. You will work as part of our engineering and controls team, collaborating with existing engineers and contractors across electrical design and documentation, PLC development, testing and on-site commissioning.
About the Role
You will work as part of a collaborative engineering team across a range of warehouse automation projects, supporting both new system development and modifications to existing equipment.
Your responsibilities will span the complete controls lifecycle, including electrical design, component selection, PLC and HMI programming, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
The position will be Melbourne-based, with some interstate travel required for project commissioning and support.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Engineering & Design
Develop electrical designs for conveyor and warehouse automation systems
Produce and maintain electrical schematics, panel layouts and associated documentation using AutoCAD Electrical
Develop I/O schedules and electrical Bills of Materials (BOMs)
Select electrical and automation components including PLCs, safety devices, VSDs, sensors and control equipment
Design and document control panels and field electrical systems
Review electrical designs for compliance, functionality and constructability
Support electrical contractors during panel manufacture, installation and site works
Maintain accurate as-built electrical documentation following commissioning
PLC Programming & Controls
Develop, modify and troubleshoot PLC programs for conveyor and warehouse automation systems
Program and commission Siemens and/or Omron PLC systems
Develop and modify HMI applications
Develop and troubleshoot safety PLC functionality
Configure and commission VSDs, sensors, remote I/O and other field devices
Perform software testing, FAT and on-site commissioning
Troubleshoot electrical and controls issues both remotely and on site
Optimise system performance and reliability
About You
We are looking for someone with strong practical experience across both electrical engineering and PLC programming.
Ideally, you will have:
Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation or similar qualification
Solid hands-on PLC programming experience
Experience with Siemens and/or Omron PLC platforms
Practical experience using AutoCAD Electrical to develop and maintain electrical schematics
Experience designing electrical control systems for industrial machinery or automation
Ability to develop and modify electrical schematics, I/O documentation and control system documentation
Experience selecting electrical and automation components
Good understanding of PLC I/O, safety systems, VSDs, sensors and industrial networks
Experience commissioning automated machinery or industrial systems
Electrical and controls fault‐finding capabilities
Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical deliverables
Strong communication skills and the ability to work within a multidisciplinary engineering team
Experience with conveyor systems, warehouse automation, material handling equipment, EPLAN, SQL databases and WCS/WMS integration would be highly regarded.
Contract Details
Initial 3-month contract
Potential to extend for the right candidate
Melbourne-based
Competitive hourly or daily contract rate based on experience
Interstate travel may be required for project commissioning
