The Opportunity
Are you an educator dedicated to shaping the future of language and intercultural education? Monash University invites dynamic academics to join our elite cohort of Education-focused staff as a Lecturer in French and Intercultural Studies.
Education-focused academics at Monash are recognised as leaders in pedagogical innovation, setting the standard for exceptional design, technology-enhanced learning, and student-centred delivery.
This Education-Focused Level B position brings together French-language teaching with expertise in Intercultural Studies and professional practice and leadership in intercultural settings. In both education and research terms, the work of the School of Languages, Literatures, Cultures and Linguistics centralises the cultural and political alongside the linguistic, creating capabilities and knowledge frameworks around language and communication in ways that emphasise the importance of the intercultural, the transnational and the interprofessional. The appointee will contribute to this important area of the School’s educational offer at Master’s level. The appointee will also have the capability to teach into the French language stream of the European Languages Major. The appointee will be required to have language pedagogy, technology-enhanced language learning, and second language acquisition in a classroom and online environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Educational Leadership and Innovation: Design, deliver, and continuously refine engaging, inclusive, and technology-rich learning experiences across lectures, tutorials, and online environments.
- Curriculum and Assessment Design: Lead unit development, design diversified assessment strategies, and implement consistent, constructive feedback practices.
- Student-Centred Engagement: Foster inclusive, flexible learning spaces, drawing systematically on student feedback to drive continuous improvement.
- Scholarly Activity: Engage in research and scholarly activity focused on educational practice,
second language acquisition, or intercultural pedagogy to inform teaching excellence.
- Academic Mentorship: Supervise Honours and Higher Degree by Research students and contribute actively to School, Faculty, and University-wide education initiatives.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualifications: A PhD (or equivalent research and teaching experience) in French Studies, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Intercultural Studies, or a closely related field.
- Teaching Excellence: A proven track record of inspiring, effective teaching and assessment delivery in a higher education environment.
- Language proficiency: Demonstrated high-level proficiency in French and the capacity to teach French language across the relevant undergraduate levels.
- Pedagogical Expertise: Demonstrated capability in curriculum development, technology-enhanced language learning, and evidence-informed pedagogical approaches.
- Intercultural Focus: Ability to teach French language alongside intercultural and professional leadership practice in diverse settings.
- Collaborative Leadership: Solid interpersonal, organisation, and team leadership skills, with a commitment to student success and academic innovation.
