About the role

Peters Timber & Hardware is seeking an enthusiastic and customer-focused Sales Consultant to join our team at our Caulfield North location. This is a full-time position where you will be the face of our business, delivering exceptional service to our diverse customer base. As a Sales Consultant, you will play a vital role in driving sales, building customer relationships and ensuring every visitor to our store has a positive experience. This position is key to our retail operations and directly contributes to the success and reputation of Peters Timber & Hardware.

Key responsibilities

- Provide knowledgeable and attentive customer service to shoppers on the sales floor, assisting with product selection and purchase decisions

- Demonstrate comprehensive product knowledge across timber, hardware, tools and other merchandise to help customers find the right solutions

- Process sales transactions accurately using point-of-sale systems and handle cash and card payments responsibly

- Maintain an organised, clean and well-stocked retail environment, including shelving products and rotating stock as needed

- Greet customers warmly upon arrival and actively engage with them throughout their shopping experience

- Answer customer enquiries by telephone or in person with professionalism and courtesy

- Work collaboratively with team members to achieve store sales targets and operational goals

- Identify customer needs and make tailored product recommendations to enhance their purchase experience

- Support stocktaking activities and inventory management procedures

- Adhere to health and safety standards and company policies at all times

What we're looking for

- Previous retail experience or customer service experience, preferably in hardware, building supplies or a similar retail environment

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with diverse customers

- Enthusiasm for sales and a genuine interest in helping customers solve their problems

- Reliable, punctual and committed to providing consistent,



high-quality service

- Ability to work as part of a team and contribute positively to the store workplace

- Physical capability to lift, carry and move stock and merchandise regularly

- Basic numeracy skills and comfort with point-of-sale technology

- Flexibility to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays as required

- A willingness to develop product knowledge and learn about our range

- Preferably, knowledge of or interest in timber, hardware and home improvement products
