We are seeking an accomplished and forward-thinking educational leader to join our Senior School as Head of Science. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced Science educator to provide dynamic leadership and direction for learning, teaching and curriculum development across the Faculty.
The successful candidate will hold an ongoing, full-time position as a Science Teacher, together with a three-year appointment as Head of Faculty.
About The Role
Reporting to the Director of Learning, the Head of Science will maintain a harmonious balance between visionary educational leadership and the effective operational management of the Faculty.
The Head of Science will lead a team of teaching and technical staff to ensure that the curriculum promotes best practice and provides creative, engaging and age-appropriate learning opportunities for students. This will be achieved through effective leadership, collaborative decision-making, thoughtful delegation and the development of strong professional relationships.
With a deep understanding of contemporary pedagogy and the science of learning, the successful candidate will lead the implementation of evidence-based teaching and learning programs that respond to the needs of every learner and optimise student progress.
The Head of Science will foster a cohesive and high-performing Faculty culture characterised by professional growth, high expectations, collaboration, constructive feedback and a shared commitment to continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Requirements
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing strategic and operational leadership for Science teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment.
- Developing and implementing a cohesive Faculty-wide approach to instruction that provides effective learning opportunities for all students.
- Leading the design, implementation and review of contemporary, evidence-based Science programs.
- Using student and cohort-level data to evaluate curriculum, inform instructional decisions and improve student learning outcomes.
- Driving curriculum innovation and ensuring learning programs remain rigorous, engaging and responsive to student needs.
- Promoting diverse teaching strategies and differentiated learning approaches across the Faculty.
- Creating a culture of professional dialogue, growth, high expectations and constructive feedback.
- Conducting formal professional growth conversations and supporting staff to evaluate and strengthen their impact on student learning.
- Leading Faculty meetings that promote professional learning and the sharing of effective teaching strategies and resources.
- Supporting and developing the Deputy Head of Science through meaningful leadership opportunities and thoughtful delegation.
- Ensuring curriculum documentation, assessment practices and learning programs meet internal and external compliance requirements.
- Collaborating with other Heads of Faculty to explore cross-curricular connections and contribute to whole-school priorities.
- Preparing and managing the Faculty’s annual budget in consultation with the Director of Learning and the Finance Office.
- Managing Faculty resources responsibly to support rigorous, innovative and contemporary learning programs.

As a classroom teacher, the successful candidate will deliver rigorous, inclusive and engaging Science programs, build strong relationships with students and contribute to their pastoral care and holistic development. Trinity teachers participate actively in the curricular, co-curricular and pastoral life of the School and support students to achieve their personal best.

Qualifications and Requirements
The successful candidate will demonstrate:
- Relevant tertiary teaching qualifications and current registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching Science within a secondary school environment.
- Proven educational leadership and management capabilities, ideally within a Faculty, department or curriculum leadership role.
- Deep knowledge of contemporary Science teaching, learning and curriculum design.
- Demonstrated ability to improve instruction and curriculum through evidence-based practice and a strong understanding of the science of learning.
- The capacity to use student learning data to inform instructional decisions and optimise student progress.
- Experience designing, implementing and reviewing contemporary curriculum, assessment and learning programs.
- The ability to lead pedagogical excellence and curriculum innovation across a diverse Faculty.
- A collaborative leadership style and demonstrated experience coaching, developing and supporting colleagues.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills,
with a proven ability to build and maintain constructive qualified relationships.
- Well-developed organisational, planning and decision-making skills, with the ability to establish priorities and manage competing demands.
- The ability to lead and support change informed by contemporary educational research.
- Excellent skills in the contemporary use of learning technologies.
- A strong commitment to professional growth, reflective practice and continuous improvement.
- A positive mindset, high emotional intelligence and the ability to think analytically and solve problems.
- Professional integrity and a commitment to Trinity’s values of Truth, Courage, Community and Service.
- Level II First Aid and anaphylaxis certification, or a willingness to complete the required training.
- The right to live and work in Australia.
Holding, or working towards, a postgraduate qualification in Education, Educational Leadership or an equivalent field will be highly regarded.
