About the role

Blue Iris Support Services is seeking an experienced and confident Nurse Educator / Support Manager for a temporary dual role combining staff leadership, participant support oversight, practical workforce education and hands-on operational support. For the right person, there is an opportunity for the position to become permanent. The role works across various locations, including Supported Independent Living (SIL) homes and the office, according to operational requirements.

This position is suited to a calm, capable professional who can respond effectively to complex mental health presentations, guide staff through challenging situations and address workplace or performance concerns appropriately. You will work collaboratively with—and under the clinical guidance of—our Clinical Nurse to ensure education and support practices are safe, consistent, person-centred and within authorised scope.

What you’ll be doing

- Oversee the delivery of safe, person-centred and least-restrictive supports.
- Guide support teams working with participants who have complex mental health, behavioural and disability-related needs.
- Work flexibly across SIL homes and the office, providing visible leadership and practical support where required.
- Manage staff concerns, workplace conflict, performance issues and professional-boundary matters.
- Coach staff and provide clear, respectful and constructive feedback.
- Deliver induction, refresher and participant-specific education under the guidance of the Clinical Nurse.
- Assist with competency assessments and maintain accurate training and compliance records.
- Reinforce current care plans, behaviour support plans, policies, incident procedures and clinical directions.
- Respond calmly to incidents,

identify risk and escalate clinical or safeguarding concerns promptly.
- Monitor emerging participant, environmental and service-delivery risks, complete risk assessments and implement or escalate appropriate controls.
- Review and update participant support plans in consultation with the participant and relevant stakeholders, ensuring changes are accurate, current and within authorised scope.
- Work collaboratively with the client intake team to assess support requirements, identify risks and support safe service commencement and transition.
- Complete buddy shifts with new staff where required to model secure, person-centred practice and confirm readiness for independent duties.
- Observe, assess and sign off trainees or staff competencies where authorised, ensuring all required standards and evidence are met.
- Monitor medication practices and adherence at SIL homes, check relevant records and promptly escalate missed doses, discrepancies or other concerns in line with policy and clinical direction.
- Undertake shifts directly supporting clients when directed, while maintaining professional boundaries, accurate documentation and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with participants, families, support coordinators, clinicians and other stakeholders.
- Complete accurate documentation and contribute to service quality and continuous improvement.

What we’re looking for

- Current registration as a nurse with AHPRA.

- Experience in disability, mental health, community services or a related environment.
- Demonstrated ability to respond to complex mental health presentations and high-pressure situations.
- Strong leadership, conflict-resolution and staff performance-management skills.
- Experience delivering workplace education, coaching or competency-based training.
- A sound understanding of professional scope, delegation, clinical guidance and escalation pathways.
- Knowledge of the NDIS Practice Standards, safeguarding, positive behaviour support and regulated restrictive practices.
- Excellent communication, organisation, judgement and documentation skills.
- Current First Aid and CPR certificates.
- Current NDIS Worker Screening clearance and Working with Children Check, where required.
- Current driver’s licence and reliable transport.

Highly regarded: A training and assessment qualification, significant mental health experience and previous supervisory or management experience.

What we offer

- A temporary role with the opportunity to become permanent, subject to performance, operational requirements and mutual agreement. A meaningful dual role combining leadership, education and service improvement.
- Support and clinical guidance from an experienced Clinical Nurse.
- The opportunity to strengthen staff capability and improve participant outcomes.
- A professional, person-centred workplace committed to dignity, safety and continuous improvement.
- Flexible work options after 6 months, if permanent employment offered.
- Access to EAP
