About the Role
Reporting to the Finance & Risk Manager, you will take responsibility for preparing the College’s management reports, maintaining financial models, coordinating budgeting and forecasting, and analysing financial and operational performance.
We are looking for an experienced professional who can work independently, investigate variances, and turn financial data into clear reports and practical insights for senior leadership and School Council. Your work will be reviewed by the Finance & Risk Manager.
This is a full-time, fixed-term replacement position commencing October 2026 until June 2027.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly and quarterly management reports, including budget comparisons, variance analysis and written commentary.
- Undertake month-end accounting tasks, including journals and reconciliations,
and contribute to year-end financial statements.
- Coordinate the annual budget process under the direction of the Finance & Risk Manager, including preparing budget models, consolidating departmental submissions and reviewing assumptions.
- Prepare and maintain financial forecasts, identifying emerging pressures, risks and opportunities.
- Work with department heads to review expenditure, explain variances and support effective management of their budgets.
- Prepare and distribute departmental financial and operational reports, highlighting matters requiring attention.
- Maintain and develop financial models, including staffing and salary expenditure models, scenario analysis and other planning tools.
- Prepare KPI reporting and analyse financial and non-financial performance to support decision-making.
- Support the Finance & Risk Manager with the annual audit by providing relevant reports, analysis and supporting documentation as required.
- Contribute financial data and analysis to statutory, funding and other compliance submissions as required.
- Improve reporting processes, templates and data accuracy, including identifying opportunities to automate routine work.
- Maintain clear documentation of financial models, reporting processes and key assumptions.
- Prepare ad hoc analysis and reports for the Finance & Risk Manager and senior leadership.
- Provide support across the Finance team as required.
Role Requirements
- A degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
- At least three years’ relevant experience in management accounting or financial analysis.
- Experience preparing management reports, investigating variances and writing clear commentary on financial performance.
- Strong financial modelling skills, including developing and maintaining budget and forecast models.
- Advanced skills in Excel and other analytical software tools.
- A sound understanding of accounting principles, month-end processes and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Experience using AI tools to improve financial analysis, reporting and workflow efficiency, with sound judgement in validating outputs and protecting confidential information.
- The ability to translate financial information into practical insights for colleagues with varying levels of financial knowledge.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with department heads to clarify assumptions and discuss budget performance.
- The ability to organise your workload, meet reporting deadlines and deliver accurate work with limited day-to-day supervision.
- CA/CPA qualification, or progress towards qualification, desirable.
- Experience in the independent school sector desirable.
