About the role

Shield Recruitment is seeking an experienced Cyber Security GRC Consultant / Assessment & Authorisation Specialist to join our growing team in Canberra, ACT. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in helping Defence and Government organisations establish and maintain robust governance, risk and compliance frameworks across their cyber security environments. Previous Defence experience is essential.

In this strategic position, you will be responsible for conducting comprehensive security assessments, developing authorisation strategies, and guiding clients through complex compliance requirements. Your expertise will directly impact how organisations protect their critical information assets and meet regulatory obligations. This role offers the opportunity to work with diverse clients across various sectors whilst contributing to the advancement of cybersecurity practices in Australia.

Please note: Due to the nature of the role, you must hold an active NV2 or TSPV security clearance.

Key responsibilities

- Conduct detailed cybersecurity risk assessments and vulnerability evaluations to identify gaps in security posture and compliance

- Develop and implement security authorisation frameworks aligned with industry standards and regulatory requirements

- Prepare comprehensive assessment reports documenting findings, recommendations, and remediation strategies

- Advise clients on governance structures, policies, and procedures to strengthen their cybersecurity maturity

- Lead security control assessments and provide evidence-based recommendations for improvement

- Support clients through the authorisation and accreditation process, ensuring compliance with relevant standards

- Maintain knowledge of evolving cybersecurity threats, regulatory changes,



and industry best practices

- Liaise with stakeholders at all levels, from technical teams to senior management, to communicate risk and compliance findings

- Develop security compliance roadmaps and implementation plans tailored to client requirements

- Contribute to the development of templates, frameworks, and tools to enhance service delivery

What we're looking for

- Relevant tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience

- Experience in cybersecurity governance, risk management, or compliance roles

- Demonstrated expertise in security assessment methodologies and frameworks such as NIST, ISO/IEC 27001, or equivalent standards

- Strong understanding of Australian regulatory requirements and compliance obligations relevant to cybersecurity

- Proven experience conducting security audits and vulnerability assessments

- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate technical findings into business-focused recommendations

- Solid written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex information to diverse audiences

- Professional certifications such as CISSP, CCSK, CISM, or GIAC certifications are highly desirable

- Experience with authorisation and accreditation processes, particularly within the Australian Government context, is advantageous
