Assistant Director Communication and Stakeholder Engagement
The Royal Australian Mint is a small government agency working within the Commonwealth Government Portfolio of the Treasury. The Mint is a non-corporate Commonwealth Entity and is listed under the Public Governance Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (PGPA Act). The Mint is also covered by the Public Service Act 1999 (Cth) (PS Act).
The Royal Australian Mint makes coins and other minted products to serve the needs of the Australian economy, foreign countries, investors and collectors. We are stewards of a thriving national institution that showcases our Nations stories through the National Coin Collection, and a world class museum and gallery experience.
The Royal Australian Mint creates public value through a range of coining and minting-related activities. We play a key role in sharing the stories of Australia by recognising significant anniversaries, events, organisations and cultural perspectives through coins.
The Mint offers some of the most unique career opportunities within the public service, including roles such as:
- Coin making – polishing, laser frosting, 3D engraving, Physical Vapour Deposition hard coating, chrome plating, dies inspection and collars manufacture.
- Machinery – operate and maintain minting critical machines.
- Coin Sculpting – design coins, medals, medallions, and token, etc.
- Graphic Design – design coin packaging materials, exhibition graphics, etc.
- Engineering – technical support and manufacturing operations.
About the Branch
The Museum and Public Engagement Branch (MaPE) is responsible for a diverse range of functions that connect the Royal Australian Mint with Australian citizens, customers, collectors and visitors. The Branch brings together coin and graphic design, product development and sales, museum operations, digital platforms and public programs to create meaningful experiences and strengthen engagement with the Mint.
MaPE plays an important role in building awareness of the Mint and the National Coin Collection, educating the community about the significance of currency in Australian society, culture and history. Through exhibitions, programs, digital experiences and other engagement activities, the Branch brings the stories behind Australia’s coins to life and encourages the community to connect with the Mint and its collections.
The Branch also delivers a significant commercial program for the Mint through the design, development and sale of numismatic products for domestic and international markets. It drives innovation in product design and identifies opportunities to translate the Mint’s heritage, expertise and national significance into products and experiences that resonate with customers and collectors.
Through its combined commercial, cultural and public engagement functions, MaPE seeks to build awareness, create meaningful experiences and develop lasting relationships between the Australian community and the Royal Australian Mint.
About the Role
Assistant Director Communications Stakeholder Engagement will lead and manage a small team, working closely with the Director of Museum and Public Engagement to effectively develop, execute and evaluate marketing, communication, media relations and stakeholder management activities for the Mint.
The position will be responsible for leading a team that develop promotions for collectible coin launches; create and share content to shine a light on the Mint as a National Cultural Institution; and finding new and effective ways for the Mint to engage with the community.
Assistant Director Communications Stakeholder Engagement will work closely with the Director Museum and Public Engagement to foster and establish connections with key stakeholders in the community, to be the creative driving force behind engagement initiatives and execute the goals of the Connection Strategy.
The position will lead a small team whose functions include media engagement, marketing, social media channel management and short form digital content creation.
The key duties of the position include:
1. Dynamically leading and managing a small team, including overseeing performance and development.
2. Providing formal and informal marketing and communications advice to the senior management.
3. Oversee and manage reporting requirements. This includes providing data and analysis to the Senior leadership team for marketing and social media activities.
4. Track engagement metrics, analyse trends, and compile qualitative and quantitative reports to measure the effectiveness of engagement efforts.
5. Establishing, building and maintaining robust working relationships with other sections across the Mint.
6. Applying marketing and communications expertise to inform a strategic well-developed and executed media and marketing operational plan.
7. Proactively engaging with mainstream media to generate publicity for the Mint.
8. Lead the development of digital marketing, including content marketing of the Mint business.
9. Design and implement comprehensive stakeholder engagement strategies to secure partnerships, foster collaboration, and build brand or agency reputation.

Qualification
An undergraduate degree or higher in marketing, communications, management or similar would be considered highly desirable.
