ButcherCrowd
City of Gold Coast
ButcherCrowd is a rapidly growing Australian direct-to-consumer meat and seafood subscription business.
We work with trusted Australian farmers, producers, processors and fisheries, delivering grass-fed and grass-finished beef and lamb, free-range and pasture-raised meat, and wild-caught seafood to tens of thousands of customers across Australia. Responsible sourcing, animal welfare and product quality are fundamental to the ButcherCrowd proposition.
Our growth has been built around those standards, a strong customer proposition and a highly engaged customer base, supported by our own proprietary technology.
Having built and scaled ButcherCrowd from the ground up, our two founders will continue as Co-CEOs, leading company strategy, direction and major strategic decisions.
We’re now looking for an exceptional Chief Operating Officer to take ownership of the day-to-day operating business.
This is not a maintenance COO role, and it isn’t a step-up opportunity.
You’ll join a business with strong foundations, an established team and significant momentum, but with plenty still to build. This is an opportunity to help shape how the business operates, how our leaders develop and how we scale from here.
The Mandate
You’ll have executive ownership across Customer Experience, inventory, procurement, supplier relationships, logistics and 3PL, general operations, and food safety and compliance.
The role goes beyond running individual functions. You’ll be accountable for how the operating business performs as a whole.
You’ll set clear priorities, develop strong leaders, improve execution and make sure teams work effectively together across the business.
Within agreed strategy, budgets and delegated authority, you’ll make the day-to-day operating calls and be accountable for the outcomes.
The Co-CEOs retain responsibility for company strategy and major strategic and material decisions. This creates clear lines of accountability between strategic leadership and day-to-day operations,
while maintaining a close working relationship between the COO and Co-CEOs.
You’ll also work closely with the broader executive team as peers, making sure there is strong coordination across the business.
Leadership & Culture
How you lead will be as important as what you deliver.
ButcherCrowd has been built by a team with a strong sense of ownership, accountability and commitment to the customer. We want to strengthen those qualities as the business grows, not lose them.
You’ll set a high standard across the operating team, develop capable leaders and create an environment where people understand what they own, make good decisions and are accountable for delivering.
We want someone with the judgement to understand what already works before changing it, while recognising where the business needs to evolve and bringing people with them.
And we don’t want someone who simply agrees with us.
You need to be comfortable challenging the Co-CEOs and your executive peers constructively, bringing a different perspective when needed and having difficult conversations when you believe there is a better path.
Your Track Record
This is not your first significant executive role.
You’ll have already held a C-suite position within a substantial business and demonstrated the ability to lead through growth and scale.
Your C-suite background doesn’t need to come from one particular function. What matters is the scale and complexity you’ve operated at, the accountability you’ve carried and the outcomes you’ve delivered.
We’re looking for evidence that you have:
- • Led a substantial operating business, division or multi-functional organisation through significant growth.
- • Built and developed strong leaders and teams with clear accountability.
- • Made decisions with significant commercial, operational, customer and people consequences.
- • Built or materially improved the systems and processes required for a business to scale.
- • Managed complexity across suppliers, inventory, fulfilment, logistics or customer operations.
- • Worked effectively with founders, boards or highly engaged owners.
- • Demonstrated strong commercial judgement and the ability to move between strategic thinking and operational execution.
Experience in a subscription or recurring-revenue business would be highly regarded , particularly where you’ve operated at scale across customer experience, retention and fulfilment. Experience in DTC, e-commerce or another consumer business with meaningful supply-chain complexity would also be relevant. Food/FMCG or cold-chain experience is an advantage, but not essential.
Why ButcherCrowd
A genuine operating mandate

Solid foundations, with more to build
You’ll join a successful and growing national business with high-quality products, strong customer advocacy, an established team and significant momentum.
Direct founder partnership
You’ll work directly with both Co-CEOs, with clear accountability for your own remit and without unnecessary layers of approval.
A real opportunity to influence the business
You’ll have a significant role in how our operations, leadership and culture develop as the business grows.
Remuneration
The package will reflect the seniority, scope and accountability of the role.
Location
Gold Coast or Cairns. Remote candidates will also be considered for the right person.
