Safety, Quality & Sustainability Specialist
Wallenius Wilhelmsen is seeking an experienced Safety, Quality & Sustainability Specialist to join our Oceania team, based in Brisbane.
This is a hands-on role that will champion safety, quality and sustainability across our operations. You will partner closely with operational leaders and frontline teams to strengthen safety and quality practices, maintain our Integrated Management System and support continuous improvement across the business.
Reporting to the Regional Manager, Safety, Quality and Sustainability, you will help ensure our operations comply with applicable legislation, ISO standards, customer requirements and internal policies and procedures.
Key responsibilities
In this role, you will:
Champion a positive safety, quality and sustainability culture across the business.
Support operational compliance with relevant work health and safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
Monitor compliance by conducting site inspections and internal audits.
Investigate safety and quality incidents, identify root causes and recommend corrective and preventative actions.
Maintain and continuously improve the Integrated Management System.
Support compliance with ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Coordinate audit schedules and support external ISO audits.
Monitor audit findings and actions to ensure their timely completion and closure.
Develop, review and maintain policies, procedures, standard operating procedures and work instructions.
Train leaders, supervisors and frontline employees in root-cause analysis, structured problem-solving and corrective and preventative action processes.
Partner with operational teams to analyse trends, improve processes, reduce defects and strengthen long-term quality outcomes.
Monitor performance against key safety and quality indicators and prepare reports on local and global metrics.
Collaborate with regional and global teams to share best practices and strengthen the organisation's quality framework.
Support vessel quality audits and broader quality initiatives across Oceania, where required.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
Qualifications in Occupational Health and Safety, Quality or a related discipline.
Previous experience in safety management and quality assurance or quality control, ideally within a blue-collar, operational or unionised environment.
Strong knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation, standards and procedures.
A sound understanding of ISO 45001, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Experience developing and maintaining quality management systems and supporting documentation.
Strong knowledge of continuous improvement, quality assurance and Lean Six Sigma tools.
Demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, reporting and project management skills.
The ability to build trusted relationships and influence employees and leaders at all levels.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
A proactive, self-directed and practical approach.
A valid driver's licence.
Experience in shipping, logistics, maritime, transport or a similar operational industry will be highly regarded. Knowledge of Heavy Vehicle National Law and Chain of Responsibility requirements would also be advantageous.
