Head of Systems & Continuous Improvement

The B&D; Group (B&D; Plumbing) is seeking a Head of Systems and Continuous Improvement to take ownership of the business systems that support day-to-day operations and help the business work more efficiently as it grows. TradeCloud is the primary operational platform, with SIMPRO functions being migrated to TradeCloud, alongside Xero and Microsoft-based tools. This role will connect those systems with the practical needs of people—from office and management teams to plumbers and drainage teams on site. You will learn how work gets done across B&D;, identify where processes slow people down or create errors, and lead improvements from initial idea through to testing, training and adoption. You will also identify and introduce AI tools where they deliver a clear, measurable business benefit. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who can work comfortably with both software developers and operational teams.

Key responsibilities

- Act as the business owner of TradeCloud and coordinate improvements across its operational use
- Identify suitable opportunities for AI and automation across administration, document handling, reporting, knowledge retrieval and other B&D; workflows
- Maintain a clear understanding of how TradeCloud, Xero and Microsoft tools support each stage of B&D;'s work
- Oversee user access, system documentation, data quality, issue escalation and practical controls, working with external technical specialists where required
- Work with Finance and system providers to understand existing data flows,



resolve discrepancies and improve the reliability of management information
- Run small, controlled trials with clear measures of benefit before recommending wider use
- Gather requirements from operational, estimating, purchasing, finance and leadership teams
- Turn business problems into clear development briefs with expected outcomes and acceptance criteria
- Prioritise a development roadmap with the Managing Directors and relevant managers
- Manage the working relationship with TradeCloud's team, including scope, cost, timing, testing, release and follow-up

About you

- Strong experience owning or improving business-critical operational systems, ideally in construction, trade services, field services or another high-volume operational business
- Ability to assess AI and automation opportunities on business value, usability and information security
- Proven ability to work with software vendors or developers to scope, test and deliver changes
- Experience improving processes across multiple teams and getting people to adopt recent ways of working
- Sound understanding of data, reporting, integrations and access controls
- Practical familiarity with Microsoft business tools; experience with Xero and job-management platforms is beneficial
- Clear communication, commercial judgement and the confidence to challenge a request when a simpler process change would produce a better result
- A strong team player who works well with others and contributes to a positive work environment
