Douglas Shire Council is seeking anexperienced and motivated Ganger Public and Natural Areas to lead a hands-onoutdoor crew responsible for maintaining some of the Shire's most visible andvalued public spaces.
About the Role
This is a practical, hands-on leadershiprole where you'll supervise a small team and play an important part in keepingthe Douglas Shire's public spaces protected, welcoming and well presented.
You'll coordinate the day-to-day activitiesof a field-based crew delivering maintenance across Council's parks, gardens,streetscapes and other public and natural areas.
Working alongside your team, you'll planand prioritise daily works, allocate people and equipment, monitor the qualityand progress of work and make sure jobs are completed safely and efficiently.
You'll also keep an eye on the condition ofthe areas you work in, identifying maintenance needs, defects and hazards andhelping ensure Council assets are maintained to a high standard.
About You
We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience leading,motivating and supporting an outdoor work crew
- Has practical experiencein landscape and horticultural maintenance, ideally in a tropicalenvironment
- Can confidently plan,coordinate and deliver day-to-day maintenance activities
- Is experienced in thesafe use of landscape maintenance equipment, including mowers, linetrimmers, chainsaws and pole saws
- Has a strong practicalunderstanding of workplace health and safety and environmentalrequirements
- Can coordinate people,plant and other resources to deliver work efficiently and within budget
- Builds positive workingrelationships with customers, contractors and other stakeholders
- Enjoys working outdoorsand takes pride in the presentation of the Douglas Shire

Pre-Employment Assessment
Following the selection of the preferred candidate, Council will require a number of further checks including reference checks, police history / criminal history checks, medical assessment and drug and alcohol test.
