About the Role:
This is an opportunity to join a respected not-for-profit organisation committed to improving the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in regional and remote communities. As the Indigenous Health Project Officer, you’ll provide culturally safe guidance and support across Integrated Team Care (ITC) activities and deliver projects that contribute to improving access to culturally appropriate health services. You’ll work closely with Aboriginal Health Services, mainstream health providers and other community and external stakeholders to strengthen connections, improve access to care and support better health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. This is a varied role that combines program coordination, community engagement, health promotion and quality improvement, with a strong focus on building meaningful relationships and supporting culturally safe practice. The role requires respect, empathy and cultural understanding when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities.
About You:
- Has qualifications and/or skills and experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Has experience working in a primary health setting, with a sound understanding of general practice, primary health care and the social and emotional wellbeing needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
- Has a strong understanding of culturally safe practice and a genuine commitment to supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Has exceptional relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Can communicate ideas and information clearly and confidently, with strong planning and problem-solving skills to support the objectives of the activity.
- Has experience delivering or coordinating culturally appropriate training and quality improvement activities.
- Can coordinate education and health promotion activities and events for the broader community, including community days, presentations, meetings and reference groups.
- Is organised, cooperative and able to manage multiple projects and priorities.
- Brings a positive attitude, genuine commitment to their work and strong team spirit.
