Business Development Manager - Construction

My client is an established business within the building materials and construction supply industry, supplying customers across a range of sectors.

The business has built a strong reputation for quality steel products, reliable service and strong customer relationships. With continued growth across the region, they are looking to add an experienced Business Development Manager to the team.

The Role

Working across the Canberra region and surrounding area's, you will be responsible for finding new customers, developing relationships and winning new business.

You will spend a large part of your week in the field, meeting builders, contractors, trades and construction businesses, finding out what they need and identifying where the business can help.

There is an existing customer base to work with, but the main focus will be on growing the territory and bringing new customers through the door.

This role will suit someone who enjoys sales, is comfortable approaching new customers and wants to see a direct result from their own efforts.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and manage a sales territory across Greater Canberra
- Identify and win current customers across the construction industry
- Build relationships with builders, contractors,



trades and construction businesses
- Generate new leads through prospecting, cold calling and networking
- Meet customers regularly and develop strong working relationships
- Identify upcoming projects and turn opportunities into sales
- Grow existing customer relationships and increase sales
- Prepare quotations and negotiate pricing with customers
- Keep up to date with local market activity and competitors
- Work closely with internal sales, operations and management
- Work towards and exceed sales and profitability targets

Role Requirements

- Previous experience in business development, external sales or territory sales
- Building materials, construction or related industry experience preferred
- A proven ability to win new customers and generate sales
- Confident making calls, meeting new customers and opening doors
- Strong communication and negotiation skills
- Commercial understanding of pricing and margins
- Good organisation and territory management skills
- Self-motivated and comfortable working autonomously
- Current driver's licence

Salary and Benefits

Base $110-$125k | 12% Super | Company Car | Commission
