The opportunity
ASIO is seeking proactive, motivated and passionate Business Analysts. You will contribute to ASIO’s mission through working with project managers, technical experts and business stakeholders at all levels to investigate, analyse, validate, and document business, functional and non-functional requirements. You will guide technology change through all stages of the project lifecycle and play a key role in transitioning ASIO staff to current ways of working.
You will have the ability to drive project requirements from inception to delivery. As a pivotal part of cross-functional multi-disciplinary teams, you will use a broad range of business analysis techniques to:
· Define business problems
· Understand business teams’ current state
· Define future state
· Design and prototype user interfaces
· Document business, functional and non-functional requirements
· Lead user acceptance testing
· Support technical and business teams through implementation and adoption.
A merit pool may be created to fill future vacancies which have the same or similar requirements to this position. This merit pool will be valid for up to 18 months.
The key duties of the position include:
Responsibilities
As a Business Analyst, you will:
· Investigate business needs, problems and opportunities to support and recommend effective business and ICT changes.
· Develop artefacts to support the requirements definition such as requirement specifications, user stories, process models, operational concepts, prototypes and data driven insights.
· Build relationships and work collaboratively with stakeholders by facilitating workshops,
stakeholder interviews, presentations, product backlog management and user acceptance
testing.
· Contribute to and manage activities for planning, development, enhancement and
implementation of projects and systems.
· Identify issues, risks and benefits of current and proposed solutions and apply expertise to
detail the resulting impacts.
· Lead and support business transition to embed change.
· Continually develop the business analysis competency within the Organisation.
ITE2 Business Analyst (APS6 equivalent): The ITE2 role will be capable of working under broad direction to perform and achieve a range of moderately complex ICT business analysis work in a variety of contexts.
SITEC Senior Business Analyst (EL1 equivalent): The SITEC role will be capable of working under limited direction to perform and achieve highly complex ICT business analysis work in a wide and sometimes unpredictable range of contexts. This is a leadership role and may include line management of staff.

· Business analysis skills and experience in software development, project management and agile frameworks and methodologies.
· Enthusiasm and a desire to learn the business analyst role, whilst providing support to ongoing projects.
· Ability to develop and apply business analysis deliverables, tools and techniques in a range of contexts.
· Resilience and adaptability to change of analysis approaches in an unpredictable environment.
· Experience working in a multi-disciplinary team.
· Experience in developing stakeholder and client engagement at a variety of levels.
· Effective communication skills and the ability to engage, influence and negotiate with others.
· Experience in workshop facilitation, interviews and delivering engaging presentations.
· Experience in enhancing, delivering and promoting ICT services.
· Management and leadership experience (as required).

Skills and qualifications
Demonstrable knowledge or experience of business analyst principles and practices including experience within the area of ICT.
The following qualifications and experience are desirable, but are not required:
· Familiarity with the International Institute of Business Analysis BABOK Guide, and its concepts and techniques.
· Membership of the Australian Chapter of the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA).
· Undergraduate studies in Information Technology and/or studies in business or business analytics.

- an Australian citizen
- assessed as suitable to hold and maintain a TOP SECRET-Privileged Access (TS-PA) security clearance.

These positions are located in Canberra. Relocation assistance is provided to successful candidates where ASIO requires you to relocate.

Employment conditions
Employment is under the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation Act 1979. Conditions of service are similar to those applying in the Australian Public Service. We recognise entitlements accrued under the Public Service Act 1999 and provide for continuation of superannuation under the Commonwealth schemes. Salary packaging arrangements are also available.
