About the branch

The Corporate Branch is responsible for the corporate functions of the Agency including financial management, legal advice, human resources (HR), ICT, security, property and facilities. The branch works closely with internal stakeholders and shared service providers to ensure the agency operates effectively, remains compliant with legislative and policy obligations, and is equipped to support the evolving needs of PWSS.

About the team

The Enabling Services team plays a critical role in ensuring PWSS operates safely, securely and efficiently. The team is responsible for managing the agency's corporate functions and shared service arrangements, while supporting compliance with whole-of-government requirements.

About the role

The position is responsible for leading a diverse team to deliver high-quality enabling services that support the work of the PWSS. The role operates in a dynamic and fast paced environment, requiring highly developed leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills. The Director is responsible for leading and motivating staff, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team culture, and building productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

Working under the general direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Director works closely with the PWSS Executive to provide strategic advice, support organisational decision-making, and ensure enabling services align with the agency's objectives, governance requirements, and operational needs.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced leader with:

- well-developed leadership and problem-solving skills including the ability to support a team managing competing priorities
- sound judgement and the ability to think strategically and anticipate emerging issues
- excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills




- the ability to influence outcomes and provide trusted advice to senior leaders, and
- a solid understanding of governance, risk and compliance requirements relevant to the responsibilities of the role.

The key duties of the position include:

- Leading and developing a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Providing strategic oversight and direction across corporate functions and shared service arrangements.
- Building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships to achieve organisational outcomes.
- Embedding robust governance and compliance frameworks that uphold legislative obligations and PWSS policies and procedures.
- Providing high-quality strategic advice and overseeing the preparation of complex briefs, policies and corporate documentation.
- Maintaining key reporting mechanisms with detailed data analytics and insights.
- Contributing to the branch leadership team along with the Chief Operating Officer, General Counsel and Chief Financial Officer.
- Undertaking other duties as required, consistent with the classification and business requirements

Eligibility

- Demonstrated experience across the corporate functions aligned to the role requirements.
- Experience at the Director level in a small government agency would be an advantage.
- This role is being advertised as both ongoing and non-ongoing. The role may be offered as either ongoing or non-ongoing subject to business needs and/or candidate preference.
- Under section 22(8)



of the Public Service Act 1999, employees must be Australian citizens to be employed in the Australian Public Service (APS) unless the Agency Head has agreed otherwise, in writing.
- Candidates must be independent, impartial, and apolitical, and must be seen as such. A private interest disclosure form must be completed prior to an offer being made to disclose any material personal interests that may or may appear to influence a candidate’s ability to discharge their responsibilities as an APS employee.
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo the process to obtain and maintain or continue to hold the required security clearance level for the role as indicated. All PWSS staff are required to have a minimum baseline security clearance prior to commencement.
- Successful applicants will be required to undergo a mandatory National Co-ordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC).

In addition, the PWSS provides 24 hour independent and confidential support services, for all Commonwealth parliamentary workplace participants.
