Position7th Grade Basketball CheerHead Coach (2 Positions Available)LocationJones Middle School (1) / Hastings Middle School(1)Reports ToMiddle School Director of Student LifeJob SummaryThis position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciation for discipline, sportsmanship, and teamwork in cheerQualificationsTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Prior successful experience working in a school setting or coaching student athletes is strongly preferredEssential Duties and ResponsibilitiesFollows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and proceduresInstructs and teaches skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in cheerEstablishes a fair and objective manner for executing player selection and effectively communicates with students regarding selection decisions for team rostersDemonstrates a willingness to meet with the parent(s) or guardian(s) of any student who is a member or trying out for the teamDemonstrates the ability and/or experience to create and maintain an inclusive team culturePlans and sets up activities, practices, and games in conjunction with the Department of Student LifeEnsures a certified coach is present at all cheer practices and gamesDevelops appropriate training programs and practice schedulesEnsures proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms, and update inventories are adhered toArranges game transportation for athletic participants in conjunction with the Department of Student LifeTravels with student athletes for all events or assigns a School District-approved designee to travel with all other levels, on the team bus to and from gamesAdheres to all financial policies of the district in regard to the collection and disbursement of money, expenses, and receiptsMakes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment, and suppliesWorks directly with the Middle School Athletic Director in preparing cheer practice schedulesMaintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a specified time and manner.
Ensures that form(s) (insurance, attendance, medical)



are obtained and currentEnsures that all student-athletes practicing or playing have been cleared through the Middle School Athletic Director's officeEnforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games, and ensures appropriate behaviorChecks and ensures all office, storage room, outside doors, locker rooms, and all lights are off after the last player leaves after games and practices (Head Coach may delegate this responsibility to an Assistant Coach)Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct and eligibility of athletic activities and athletes are explained and followedMaintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered toCoordinates with the Press and reports game scoresFollows OHSAA rules and regulations.
Follows the Ohio Capital conference rules and regulationsProvides guidance for youth cheer programsAssists in the selection and training of assistant coachesWorks with Athletic Training when reporting injuriesReports and secures approval from the district for all adults associated with their sportSubmits athlete rosters to the Middle School Athletic Director three weeks before the first game, any changes to the student information on the roster, inventories, final season statistics and alphabetical list of award winners immediately following the season (list includes the number of awards earned)Consults the Middle School Athletic Director regarding any off-season training programsAssigns duties to all assistant coaches under his/her jurisdiction, including pre-season practice sessionsInteracts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials, and resolves conflict in a professional mannerAppropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiriesProfessionally represents the school and the District in interactions with students, parents, community, staff, and the mediaMaintains appropriate certifications and training hours as requiredAttends work regularly and is punctualMarginal Duties and ResponsibilitiesAttends in-service training and staff meetings as neededSanitizes and cleans equipmentInspects facilities and athletic facilitiesfor health and safety concernsChaperones/supervises athletic events as neededSupervisory ResponsibilitiesAll school employees have some responsibility for supervising standards and assisting in maintaining a safe environmentPhysical DemandsThe physical demands described here are representative of those required of an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
