South Coast Region is one of the fastest-growing regions in Queensland.
It covers more than 1,000 km of national highway and state-controlled road network across the Gold Coast, Logan and Scenic Rim.
The region is delivering a major infrastructure program and needs a senior communications and engagement specialist to lead the external-facing work that goes with it.
You'll lead a small Communications and Engagement team and act as the key adviser to Project Directors, the Regional Director and the communications leadership team.
This is a hands‐on role with a direct line to the communities affected by major road projects.
What you'll do
Lead community engagement, community relations and correspondence for major road projects across the region
Lead and coach a small team producing transparent, consistent, high-quality collateral and information
Work with project managers to identify communication issues early and put proactive issues management in place
Provide media,
engagement and strategic advice to senior leaders
Build strong relationships with community groups, businesses, industry and local, state and federal government agencies
Represent the department in public forums and community meetings
What you'll bring
Senior experience in community engagement, stakeholder management and strategic communications
Strong issues management skills and confidence handling difficult stakeholders and critical conversations
Experience in major infrastructure environments (highly regarded)
Experience leading and developing a team
Media relations and social media skills
A degree in communications, public relations or marketing, or equivalent experience
IAP2 or equivalent engagement training (desirable)
Knowledge of the infrastructure planning lifecycle (desirable)
Mandatory requirements
A current Class C driver's licence and your own vehicle to travel to sites, offices and meetings (travel costs are not covered)
Willingness to undergo employment screening, including a criminal history check
A White Card, or the ability to get one within six months of starting
