Join Ampcontrol's High Voltage team in Townsville and play a critical role in supporting the testing, commissioning and maintenance of high voltage protection systems across Australia's mining, utilities, industrial and infrastructure sectors.This role offers an exciting opportunity for either an experienced electrician with protection testing experience or a recent Electrical Engineering graduate looking to develop practical, hands-on skills in high voltage protection systems.
Working alongside a team of highly skilled protection specialists, you'll gain exposure to real-world HV assets, commissioning activities and advanced protection technologies while building a rewarding career in the energy sector.You'll work across a diverse range of generation, transmission, distribution and industrial power systems, supporting projects that help keep critical electrical infrastructure operating safely and reliably.What You'll DoAs a Protection Technician, you will be responsible for:Assisting with the testing, commissioning and maintenance of HV protection systems and associated equipmentSupporting protection relay testing, fault investigations and commissioning activitiesConducting field and laboratory-based testing activities on electrical infrastructureInterpreting electrical schematics, protection drawings and technical documentationAssisting with troubleshooting, diagnostics and technical investigationsPreparing test reports, commissioning records and technical documentationSupporting project delivery across mining, utilities, industrial and infrastructure sectorsEnsuring compliance with relevant standards,



procedures and safe work practicesWorking closely with customers, project teams and senior technical specialistsMaintaining a strong focus on safety, quality and customer serviceAbout YouTo be successful in this role, you may come from one of the following backgrounds:Option 1: Trade Qualified ElectricianElectrical Trade Qualification (Cert III Electrotechnology - Electrician)Experience in protection testing, commissioning, HV maintenance or electrical infrastructure environmentsStrong fault-finding and problem-solving skillsAbility to interpret electrical drawings and technical documentationInterest in developing specialist expertise in HV protection systemsOption 2: Graduate Electrical EngineerBachelor of Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualificationStrong interest in power systems and electrical protectionSound technical aptitude and willingness to learn in a hands-on field environmentAbility to analyse technical information and solve complex problemsDesire to build a long-term career in HV protection systems and commissioningFor All ApplicantsCurrent Class C Driver Licence or ability to obtainStrong written and verbal communication skillsCommitment to safety,
