Mechanical Engineer / Project Engineer – Defence Construction
About the opportunity
A leading mechanical services contractor is growing its Canberra team for a major Defence construction project.
This isn't a role for someone who wants to sit behind Revit all day.
You'll sit across design, project and site, with the technical depth to understand the systems and the practical drive to make things happen on the ground.
If you've built your career in mechanical contracting, building services or major construction, and you're ready to take on more ownership, this is a chance to be part of a high-profile, long-term project.
What you'll be doing
Delivering HVAC and mechanical services from design development through to commissioning and handoverReviewing drawings and specifications, managing shop drawings, RFIs and design changesCoordinating mechanical services with electrical, hydraulic, fire and structural trades, using Revit/BIMSupporting procurement, equipment selection and subcontractor managementWorking with builders, consultants and clients to resolve technical issues on siteCarrying out site inspections and QA/QC, and managing defects through to completion
About you




Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent background4+ years' experience in HVAC or mechanical building services, ideally 4 to 8Experience on major commercial construction projects, in a contractor or design and construct environmentA blend of design, project and site exposure, from Mechanical Engineer through to Project Engineer or Site EngineerWorking knowledge of Revit/BIM and mechanical services coordinationStrong communication skills and confidence dealing with subcontractors, builders and consultantsDefence or government project experience is highly regarded
Eligibility
Australian citizenship is essentialYou must be able to obtain and hold a Defence security clearanceCanberra-based, or genuinely willing to relocate
