The Assistant Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and oversight of a procurement advisory team to ensure the delivery of high-quality, timely and compliant procurement advice and support across the department. The role requires building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships, managing operational priorities, and guiding business areas through complex procurement activities.

The primary objective of this role is to lead a team within the Procurement Business Partners Section, delivering high-quality procurement advice and support to business areas across the department. The role is responsible for ensuring procurement activities are undertaken in accordance with Commonwealth and departmental legislative, policy and governance requirements, while fostering strong stakeholder relationships and driving the delivery of value-for-money outcomes. The position also plays a key leadership role in building procurement capability, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and promoting best-practice procurement and contract management across the department.

- The ability to manage competing priorities and workloads in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislative, policy and regulatory frameworks, including the Commonwealth Procurement Rules, procurement connected policies and the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013.
- The ability to lead a team in delivering high-quality services while ensuring compliance, operational and record-keeping requirements are met.
- Sound judgement, risk management and decision-making skills.
- Strong organisational skills, with the capability to manage competing priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent written communication skills, including preparation of high-level advice, minutes and briefings, and guidance materials.




- Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage productive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- The ability to identify, lead and implement continuous improvements to processes, systems and service delivery.
- Resilience, adaptability and the ability to support others through change.

Desirable experience and qualifications:
- Extensive procurement experience, skills and expertise including the delivery of advice in complex and sensitive environments.
- Desirable Certificate 4 or Diploma in Procurement and Contracting
- Baseline security clearance

- To be eligible for employment with the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, applicants must be an Australian citizen at the time an offer of employment is made.
- An applicant’s suitability for employment with Health will also be assessed through a variety of pre-employment check processes, such as:
- Satisfactory completion of a criminal history check, and where relevant, a Working with Children and Vulnerable People Check,
- Completion of a medical declaration and pre-employment medical (where required),
- Providing evidence of qualifications (where required), and
- Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance at the required level.

- To be eligible for role, applicants must have at least 5 years’ experience working with complex procurements in a Commonwealth or State and Territory agency.
