The Opportunities
We are currently working on a number of opportunities for property lawyers to join established commercial property practices in Melbourne.
With positions available from junior Lawyer level through to Senior Associate and Special Counsel, these opportunities can accommodate a range of backgrounds and career stages.
The work spans commercial property transactions, leasing, acquisitions and disposals, development and major projects, with opportunities for lawyers seeking either a broad transactional practice or a role with a stronger focus on a particular area such as commercial leasing.
Depending on your level, you may work closely with senior practitioners on complex transactions or take significant ownership of matters, client relationships and the development of junior lawyers.
The Work
Depending on your experience and the opportunity, your practice may include:
- Drafting and negotiating commercial, industrial and retail leases.
- Preparing agreements for lease, lease variations, assignments and other leasing documentation.
- Advising landlords and tenants on leasing arrangements and related property issues.
- Acting on acquisitions and disposals of commercial and development property.
- Drafting and negotiating contracts for the sale and purchase of property.
- Conducting property due diligence and preparing transaction reports.
- Advising on commercial and industrial developments.
- Assisting with the acquisition and disposal of development sites.
- Advising on easements, subdivisions, title issues and other property interests.
- Supporting corporate and commercial transactions involving property assets.
- Advising on property arrangements associated with infrastructure, energy and other major projects.
- Preparing and negotiating options to purchase or lease and other project-related property agreements.
- Managing transactions from initial instruction through to completion.
- Working directly with clients, counterparties and other advisers throughout transactions.
There is flexibility within the opportunities to pursue either a broad commercial property practice or a more specialised leasing-focused role, depending on your existing experience and career interests.
About You
We are interested in speaking with property lawyers across a broad range of experience levels, from approximately 1 year PAE through to Special Counsel.
You may come from a general commercial property background or have developed particular expertise in areas such as leasing, transactions, development or project-related property work.
Depending on your level, relevant experience may include:
- Commercial property transactions.
- Commercial, industrial or retail leasing.
- Property acquisitions and disposals.
- Property development.
- Due diligence and transaction management.
- Options, easements, subdivisions and other land arrangements.
- Property aspects of infrastructure, energy or major projects.
- Managing sophisticated property clients and transactions.
You will bring strong drafting and communication skills, attention to detail and a commercial approach to your work.
For more experienced lawyers, the ability to independently manage matters and client relationships will be important.
At Senior Associate or Special Counsel level, opportunities may also include supervising junior lawyers, taking greater responsibility for key clients and contributing to the continued development of the practice.
Experience across every area listed above is not required. We are keen to speak with lawyers whose property experience aligns with one or more of these areas.
Why Consider These Opportunities?
These positions provide the opportunity to join established property practices working with quality clients across a diverse range of real estate matters.
Depending on your experience and career goals, opportunities may offer:
- Broad commercial property and transactional work.
- Significant commercial leasing experience.
- Exposure to complex development and project-related transactions.
- Direct client interaction from an early stage.
- Increasing autonomy and responsibility as you progress.
- The opportunity to manage matters and client relationships at senior levels.
- Mentoring and development from experienced property practitioners.
- Versatile working arrangements.
- Clear opportunities for continued career progression.
Whether you are a junior property lawyer looking to broaden your transactional experience, an Associate or Senior Associate ready for greater ownership, or a Special Counsel seeking a senior position with autonomy and client responsibility, we would be interested in having a confidential discussion about the opportunities available.
