We’re looking for a motivated and reliable Boat Repairer – Leading Hand to join our team a Fergusons Marina in Mosman. This is a practical, varied role where you’ll work across vessel repairs, maintenance and refinishing whilst helping coordinate the day-to-day operation of our slipway and hardstand.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As our Boat Repairer – Leading Hand, you’ll be responsible for carrying out high-quality vessel repair, maintenance and refinishing work while supporting the safe and efficient operation of the boat yard.
You’ll also play an important role in coordinating work, maintaining quality standards and providing practical guidance to junior and less-experienced team members.
Key Responsibilities;
· Carry out fibreglass and gelcoat repairs, including grinding, laminating, fairing, finishing, colour matching, sanding and polishing.
· Installing fit-out components and deck hardware.
· Installing and aligning shafts, rudders and running gear.
· Complete repair work in timber, aluminium or composites beyond GRP.
· Complete general vessel repairs and maintenance, including replacement of hull fittings, through-hull fittings and sacrificial anodes.
· Inspect hulls and underwater equipment and identify defects or additional work required.
· Safely operate the travel lift and assist with hauling, launching, blocking and supporting vessels on the hardstand.
· Move vessels between berths,
slipway facilities and approved locations and complete appropriate pre-departure checks.
· Prepare vessel hulls for marine coating systems, including sanding, fairing, masking and establishing waterlines.
· Apply primers, epoxy barrier coats, antifouling and Propspeed or equivalent coatings in accordance with manufacturer requirements.
· Machine cut, polish and wax gelcoat and painted surfaces to a high presentation standard.
· Inspect completed work to ensure it meets the approved scope and required quality standards.
· Maintain a clean, organised and protected slipway, hardstand, workshop and storage area.
· Monitor stock and materials and ensure coatings, resins, solvents and other products are stored and handled safely.
· Help allocate tasks and provide practical guidance to junior and less-experienced staff.
· Coordinate with approved contractors and suppliers and promptly communicate delays, variations or additional work requirements.
· Assist with planning jobs, estimating labour and materials and preparing repair quotations.
· Complete vessel condition reports, photographs, work records and quality-control checks.

You’re an experienced and practical marine professional who takes pride in quality workmanship. You’re comfortable working independently but also enjoy being part of a team and helping others develop their skills.
You understand the importance of safety,
attention to detail and getting the job done properly and on time.
About You;
· Previous experience in boat repair, boat building, marine maintenance or a similar hands-on marine role.
· Experience with fibreglass and gelcoat repairs.
· Experience with hull preparation, antifouling and marine coatings.
· Strong practical skills and confidence using marine tools and equipment.
· Ability to identify vessel defects and determine appropriate repair methods.
· Good organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple jobs and priorities.
· Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
· Ability to provide practical guidance and support to junior team members.
· Good communication skills and a positive, team-focused attitude.
· Strong understanding of workplace health and safety.
· Certificate III, or 3 years of relevant work experience is required.
· Current boat licence.
