Position Title
Carpenter
Employment Type: Full-time
Minimum Required Experience: 1-3 Years
Location: Melbourne, VIC
Salary: $77000 - $83000, per annum, plus superannuation
Hours: 38 hours per week
Position Purpose The carpenter is responsible for carrying out a broad range of carpentry and construction activities associated with residential and/or commercial building projects. The position involves interpreting construction drawings and specifications and preparing and measuring materials.
The carpenter will work in accordance with approved construction plans, relevant Australian standards, workplace health and safety requirements, and project specifications.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Interpret architectural drawings, building plans, specifications, and construction documentation to determine dimensions, materials, quantities, and installation procedures.
- Measure, mark, and set out construction areas to establish accurate locations and dimensions for walls, floors, ceilings, doors, windows and other structures.
- Select, measure, mark, and prepare timber, plywood, lightweight steel, wallboard, and other construction materials required for carpentry work.
- Cut, shape, assemble, and install timber components using appropriate hand tools, power tools, mechanical fasteners, brackets, and other fixing systems.
- Install doors, windows, frames, architraves, skirting boards, moldings, trims, handles, hinges, locks,
and other associated fittings.
- Install wall linings, cladding, panelling, and other internal and external building components.
- Check completed structures for correct dimensions, alignment, level, plumb, and overall quality, making adjustments where required.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area and appropriately store tools and construction materials.
- Follow workplace health and safety procedures, including appropriate use of personal protective equipment and safe manual-handling practices.
- Complete work within project schedules, quality requirements, and specifications while maintaining professional workmanship.
Skills and Technical Competencies The successful applicant is expected to demonstrate:
- Solid knowledge of carpentry and construction methods.
- Ability to interpret architectural and construction drawings.
- Ability to accurately measure, calculate, and set out construction work.
- Understanding of workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a construction team.
Qualifications and Experience The preferred applicant will hold a relevant Australian or equivalent carpentry qualification, such as a Certificate III in Carpentry or an equivalent qualification recognized for the occupation. Pay: $77,000.00 – $83,000.00 per year
