Chef & Cook – Full-Time Positions
Hecho En Mexico – Canberra City Store | Canberra City, ACT
Hecho En Mexico is seeking experienced and qualified Chefs and Cooks to join its Canberra City restaurant.
Multiple full-time positions are available for suitably qualified candidates who can demonstrate relevant commercial kitchen experience and the skills required to perform the duties of the respective occupation.

Chef – Duties and Responsibilities The Chef will be responsible for:
- Planning menus in consultation with management and other kitchen staff.
- Estimating food and labour costs and assisting with the ordering of food supplies.
- Monitoring the quality of dishes at all stages of preparation and presentation.
- Discussing food preparation issues with managers, kitchen staff and waiting staff.
- Demonstrating cooking techniques and providing guidance to kitchen staff.
- Preparing and cooking meals in accordance with established recipes, menus and presentation standards.
- Seasoning food during the cooking process and ensuring appropriate flavour and consistency.
- Portioning food and presenting dishes in accordance with restaurant standards.
- Monitoring food storage, stock rotation and kitchen inventory.
- Ensuring food is stored and handled in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Maintaining consistent food quality, portion control and presentation during service.
- Assisting with training and supervising kitchen staff where required.
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe kitchen environment.
- Ensuring compliance with workplace health and safety, food safety and hygiene requirements.
Chef – Skills, Qualifications and Experience Applicants for the Chef position must demonstrate:
- A relevant Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification, or qualifications and experience considered equivalent for the occupation.
- Relevant experience working as a Chef in a commercial restaurant or hospitality environment.
- Solid knowledge of commercial cooking methods,
food preparation and kitchen operations.
- Ability to plan and prepare dishes to established recipes and presentation standards.
- Knowledge of menu planning, portion control and food costing principles.
- Ability to monitor food quality throughout preparation and service.
- Knowledge of safe food handling, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced commercial kitchen.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to supervise and work collaboratively with other kitchen staff.
- Reliability, professionalism and a strong work ethic.
Cook – Duties and Responsibilities The Cook will be responsible for:
- Preparing ingredients and food for cooking in accordance with recipes and kitchen procedures.
- Examining food to ensure appropriate quality and freshness.
- Regulating temperatures of ovens, grills and other cooking equipment.
- Preparing and cooking food using a range of commercial cooking techniques.
- Seasoning food during preparation and cooking.
- Portioning food and presenting dishes in accordance with established restaurant standards.
- Preparing meals to meet required quality, consistency and presentation standards.
- Operating commercial kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
- Storing food appropriately and assisting with stock rotation.
- Maintaining food preparation areas, equipment and utensils in a clean and hygienic condition.
- Following food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety procedures.
- Working efficiently during busy service periods.
- Coordinating with Chefs and other kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and service of meals.
- Assisting with general kitchen duties as required.
Cook – Skills,
Qualifications and Experience Applicants for the Cook position must demonstrate:
- A relevant Certificate III in Commercial Cookery or equivalent qualification, or qualifications and experience considered equivalent for the occupation.
- Relevant experience working as a Cook in a commercial kitchen environment.
- Knowledge of commercial food preparation and cooking techniques.
- Ability to follow recipes and established kitchen procedures.
- Ability to operate commercial cooking equipment safely.
- Knowledge of food safety, hygiene and safe food-handling practices.
- Ability to maintain consistent food quality, portion size and presentation.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Good organisational and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a kitchen team.
- Reliability, punctuality and a strong work ethic.
Employment Details Employment type: Full-time
Work location: Hecho En Mexico – Canberra City Store, Canberra City, ACT
Salary: $80,000 per annum plus superannuation The successful applicants will be employed on a full-time basis and will receive employment conditions in accordance with applicable Australian workplace laws and requirements.
About Hecho En Mexico
Hecho En Mexico operates a busy Mexican restaurant in Canberra City, serving freshly prepared Mexican cuisine in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
The successful applicants will join the kitchen team at the Canberra City store and will be responsible for maintaining high standards of food preparation, cooking, presentation, hygiene and service.
